Yorkville University

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe education is more than the pursuit of knowledge -  it is a catalyst for transformation. Our mission, grounded in democratizing education, is to create access for learners from every background and empower them to achieve their aspirations and advance their careers.

We are committed to delivering rigorous, flexible programs that are both personally fulfilling and professionally rewarding, while contributing to the betterment of society. Since 2004, Yorkville has been among Canada’s few private, for-profit, fully accredited degree-granting universities, with campuses in Ontario, British Columbia, and Fredericton and Sackville, New Brunswick. Together with Toronto Film School, we offer creative and academic pathways at both the college and university levels, cultivating a multidisciplinary environment where innovation and the arts converge.

Our community is vibrant and diverse. Many of our learners are adults balancing education with careers and personal commitments. Every member of our team -  whether in teaching, operations, or technology - is dedicated to removing barriers and expanding access. Together, we deliver flexible, industry-informed learning that leads to meaningful opportunities.

At our core is human connection - guiding people to reimagine their futures in a community defined by opportunity, creativity, and growth.

Who we need

Reporting to the Associate Dean, we are hiring a Sessional Faculty, to teach theory for our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. As Sessional Faculty, you will teach nursing theory and laboratory learning, bringing your current clinical knowledge and professional expertise into the classroom and helping students connect what they learn to professional nursing practice. You will deliver established course materials while supporting an inclusive and engaging learning environment focused on student success.

Sessional Faculty work on-site at our Sackville, New Brunswick campus and typically teach approximately two eight-hour days per week.

What’s in it for you

Influence and impact. You will teach nursing students and help shape how they understand and apply what they learn. Your clinical expertise will give students practical context as they build the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need for their future nursing careers.

Bring your expertise into education. You will use the knowledge you have developed through nursing practice in an academic setting, helping students connect nursing theory with the realities of professional practice. With established course materials and syllabi, you can focus on teaching, engaging students, and supporting their learning rather than continually developing new course content.

A focused teaching commitment. You will typically teach approximately two eight-hour days per week, giving you a defined opportunity to contribute to nursing education and build your Faculty experience. You will work directly with nursing students and collaborate with colleagues in a teaching-focused academic environment.

How you will make an impact

  • Create a positive and engaging learning experience. You will teach assigned nursing theory using established course materials and help students understand key nursing concepts and their application to professional practice. You will bring relevant examples from your clinical experience into the classroom to make learning practical and meaningful.
  • Foster inclusive, engaged learning. You will create a supportive learning environment that encourages participation, questions, critical thinking, and application of knowledge. You will use learner-centred approaches to respond to the different backgrounds, experiences, and learning needs of your students.
  • Facilitate laboratory learning. You will support students as they apply nursing concepts and develop practical skills in the laboratory environment. You will help learners make meaningful connections between what they learn in theory and how it is applied in nursing practice.
  • Support student success. You will provide meaningful feedback and guidance to help students understand their progress and strengthen their learning. You will maintain appropriate communication with students and contribute to a positive and supportive learning experience.
  • Leverage your clinical expertise. You will draw on your current or recent nursing practice experience to bring contemporary, relevant perspectives into your teaching. Your professional knowledge will help students understand how their learning connects to the realities of nursing practice.
  • Collaborate with your Faculty colleagues. You will work with the Associate Dean and other Faculty to support effective course delivery and a consistent student experience. You will contribute to a collaborative teaching environment focused on student learning and success.
  • Continue developing as an educator. You will have the opportunity to reflect on your teaching practice, learn from your interactions with students and colleagues, and continue developing your skills as a nursing educator.

You bring

  • The nursing expertise. You are a Registered Nurse with current nursing registration and relevant Canadian nursing practice experience. You bring the clinical knowledge and professional perspective needed to help nursing students connect theory with practice.
  • The clinical experience. You bring current or recent Canadian nursing practice experience, with medical-surgical nursing and pediatrics identified as priority areas for the program. Experience in other areas of nursing practice may also be relevant depending on course needs.
  • The teaching skills. You have teaching experience or are interested in developing your teaching practice and moving into nursing education. You can explain nursing concepts clearly, engage learners, and help students apply what they are learning.
  • The learner-centred approach. You are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. You can respond to students with different backgrounds, experiences, and learning needs while maintaining appropriate academic expectations.
  • The professional currency. You maintain current knowledge of nursing practice and can bring relevant clinical examples into your teaching. You are committed to continuing to learn and keeping your professional knowledge current.
  • The communication and interpersonal skills. You communicate clearly and respectfully with students, Faculty, and academic leaders. You are organized, dependable, and comfortable working collaboratively to support students and effective course delivery.
  • The technology skills. You are comfortable using Brightspace and other educational technologies to support teaching, communication, and student learning.

We welcome conversations about compensation throughout the hiring process.

Join us

We welcome and appreciate candidates with a range of backgrounds and experiences. If you have 70% of the qualifications we seek, express your interest.

What you can expect from our hiring process:

  • A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor discussing your interest in the role and your experience. The conversation will be recorded using BrightHire, an AI-powered video interview tool. More details will be shared when you are invited to interview.
  • A panel interview with the nursing hiring committee, focused on your clinical experience, teaching approach, ability to engage nursing students, and approach to supporting learners across theory, lab or simulation, and clinical environments.
  • A complete education, registration, and reference check will be conducted. In addition, an offer of employment is contingent upon agreeing to a criminal reference check-vulnerable sector with clear results.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are critical components of life at Yorkville University, and Toronto Film School, and we are committed to making these values an integral part of our culture.
