Child and Youth Worker

Position: Child and Youth Worker (September 2026-April 2027)
Salary/Hours: $23/hr for 12-15 hrs/week with the ability to work late afternoons and early evenings
Location: In-person at 415 Willowdale Avenue and potential field trips
Reporting to: Youth Program Manager

Are you a dynamic and empathetic individual dedicated to cultivating community bonds? Join our team as a Child and Youth Worker! In this role, you'll help deliver consistent, high-quality after-school programming for children ages 5-12, and rotate through a Friday Youth Night program for teens alongside our partner church. 

We seek a motivated and compassionate candidate with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. As a Child and Youth Worker, you'll build trusted relationships with children, families, volunteers, and community partners, and help create a safe, engaging space for youth to grow. 

Responsibilities:

Program Delivery (80%)

• Arrive on time to set up the space and brief volunteers before participants arrive. Actively supervise participants and maintain ratio awareness throughout every shift (8:1 preferred for afterschool, with 3+ adults on the floor). 
• Lead and support structured activities, tutoring, and group programming for children ages 5–12, Monday through Thursday. 
• Rotate through Friday Youth Night approximately twice per month, paired with a different team member each time, supporting programming for teen youth alongside church volunteers. 
• Stay through full teardown at the end of each shift; do not leave until the site is secure. 
• Swap coverage with a team member when unavailable rather than missing an assigned shift.

Communications and Administration (10%)

• Complete attendance logs, update the shared log before leaving each shift. 
• Use your weekly administrative hour for parent/guardian communication, incident documentation, or activity preparation
• Attend and actively participate in the weekly virtual team meeting to stay current on the needs of every child across both programs.

People and Community Engagement (10%)

• Supervise and support community volunteers to ensure clear expectations and a positive experience. 
• Serve as a positive and professional representative of the organization, building trust with children, families, and program partners. 
• Foster a welcoming, non-judgmental environment and maintain confidentiality for all participants.
• Provide support for NeighbourLink outreach events when needed (November 28, 2026) additional hours will be provided. 

Qualifications:

• Post-secondary education in social work, child and youth work, or a related field.
• Commitment to serving low-income populations and principles of anti-oppression, diversity, and social justice.
• Proven experience coordinating and leading youth camps or after-school programming, encompassing diverse focuses such as arts, sports, and recreational activities.
• Ability to adapt programming to accommodate various learning styles and sensory needs.
• Strong understanding of and dedication to inclusivity.
• Demonstrated experience in the non-profit sector and with vulnerable populations.
• Knowledge of Healthy Child Development principles; High 5 Certification is advantageous.
• Ability to effectively work with children and youth in various settings.
• Strong organizational, project and time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Excellent attention to detail; proficient in written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including Google Suite, Mailchimp and Canva, is an asset.
• Energetic, engaging, friendly, enthusiastic, patient, and flexible.
• First Aid and CPR certification are assets.
• Able to multitask and adapt to new challenges.
• Ability to work well independently while contributing to a team environment.
• Preference will be given to an individual with lived experience.
