Duties:
The Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Initiatives Coordinator is a member of the Centre for Experiential Learning and Student Engagement within the Career Studio team. Reporting to the Director, the Coordinator provides institution-wide leadership and coordination for initiatives that strengthen the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of work-integrated and experiential learning across Vancouver Island University.Working collaboratively with faculties, academic programs, employers, and campus partners, the Coordinator develops resources, tools, systems, and professional development opportunities that support WIL implementation and continuous improvement. The role advances institutional priorities related to experiential education, quality assurance, risk management, employer engagement, and student success while supporting alignment with provincial and national WIL frameworks and leading practices.The Coordinator acts as a connector across the institution, helping build capacity for WIL and experiential learning while supporting strategic projects, grant initiatives, practitioner communities of practice, and institution-wide approaches that enhance student access to meaningful learning experiences.Develop Best Practice Resources:
- Create and maintain a repository of best practice templates, documents and resources related to work-integrated learning resources.
- Collaborate with faculty members to identify their needs and develop tailored resources to support WIL initiatives within their respective areas based on WIL types.
- Regularly update resources based on feedback, emerging trends and changes in industry standards aligned with CEWIL and ACE-WIL standards.
- Support the use of quality assurance resources for WIL across VIU.
- Understand the various technology platforms for WIL use and support engaging faculty in their use (examples include Orbis, Riipen, career AI platforms).
Risk Management Tools and Resources:
- Support the development of risk management tools and resources to ensure the safe and effective implementation of WIL programs in collaboration with the Contracts officer, Health and Safety and Risk Management office, and others.
- Provide guidance to faculty members on risk assessment, mitigation strategies and compliance with relevant regulations and policies as they relate to WIL.
Deliver Informational Sessions and Workshops:
- Plan and deliver informational sessions and workshops to educate faculty, staff, students and employers about the benefits and best practices of WIL, various types of WIL, grant opportunities and support tools within the Centre.
- Customize sessions to meet the needs of various stakeholders and address specific concerns or challenges related to WIL implementation.
- Participate in highlighting WIL highlights and initiatives in campus wide events.
Lead Grant Project Initiatives:
- Manage specific grant projects related to advancement of WIL, including proposal development, budgeting, project implementation and reporting in partnership with faculty areas.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to maximize the impact and sustainability of grant-funded initiatives.
Build WIL Practitioner Community of Practice:
- Foster a community of WIL practitioners within the institution by organizing networking events, forums and professional development opportunities related to WIL.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing, collaboration and continuous improvement among WIL practitioners through regular communication and resource sharing platforms in line with institutional strategic plans, Student Affairs Foundation Plan, and SEM Plan.
Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities, including, student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., education, business, social sciences) and a minimum five years' experience working in the field of work-integrated learning or related areas such as experiential education (examples include co-op offices, internships, practicum, etc).
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to develop resources, tools and training materials to support professional development and capacity building for staff.
- Knowledge of risk management principles and practices related to WIL programs.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with the ability to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for all stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant field
- WIL Practitioner Certificate through CEWIL or WACE Learning Modules
- Experience working with grant-funded projects and grant writing skills are desirable.
