PROGRAM ENGINEER Management Position - Asset Management & Engineering Division

Salary range: $74,818.42 - $129,737.27 annually

SYNERGY NORTH CORPORATION (SNC) distributes electricity to approximately 50,000 residential customers and 6,000 commercial customers located in Thunder Bay and Kenora, Ontario. POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction and guidance of the Vice President of System Planning, Asset Management and Engineering, the Program Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and maintaining the utility's long-term (20-year) capital and maintenance programs. Ensuring that inspections and testing of assets are carried out in support of the capital and maintenance programs, and that all programs comply with regulatory requirements. Additionally, this position will play a key role in guiding the utility as it evolves towards the energy transition supporting electrification. The Program Engineer is responsible for SNC Asset Management Programs. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Develops, maintains, monitors and reports on the utilities 20-year Capital Plan. Including the development of a long-term

investment, asset planning/prioritization strategy and the yearly capital construction budget that aligns with strategic objectives.

• Develops budgets and justifications for all projects within the 20-year plan.
• Develops, maintains, and continually improves the SNC Asset Management Inspection Program
• Identification of inspection criteria as per current CSA Standards, Distribution System Code and Electrical Safety Code

Requirements and ensures that all inspections incorporate the most current requirements.

• Coordinates and provides leadership to staff and/or contractors as they perform risk inspections. This may include working with the

Purchasing Department to secure the most suitable contractor and related contract management tasks.

• Ensures inspections are documented to reflect an accurate health index and provides regular reports regarding SNC asset

conditions.

• Develops, monitors and reports on SNC's Capital and Maintenance Programs.
• Coordinates the updates to the Asset Management Framework for SNC and solicits input from Operations & Lines Departments for

related programs.

• Compares alternative options based on cost/benefit considerations, customer needs, safety, statistical analysis, and engineering

principles, and recommends the optimum solution.

• Responsible for preparing Distribution System Plans in support of Rate Orders in conjunction with the Finance Division.
• Develops and assists with SNC's Electrification Initiatives.
• Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

• Be registered, or be eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers of Ontario and have a

minimum 5 years' experience in an electric utility, manufacturing or related setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Knowledge and experience in database queries and/or programming, asset management principles and creation of asset

management plans are required.

• Ability to work collaboratively on inter-departmental teams and across organizational boundaries.
• Proficient in analyzing data and in relevant analytical tools or software is required. Additionally, candidates must have effective

communication skills to translate analytical findings into actionable recommendations for the utility in line with corporate objectives.

• Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, customer service, decision making, problem solving, conflict management and

communication (verbal and written) skills.

• Must have a demonstrated commitment to safety and the pursuit of excellence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Extensive knowledge of design and construction of distribution lines and substations, distribution modeling and system planning;

and maintenance of utility equipment .

• Direct large electrical utility experience.
• Experience in dealing with budgets, maintenance and capital programs and task scheduling/prioritization.
• Experience with Microsoft Office software, SCADA, and GIS.
• Project management designation considered an asset.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Must have the use of a vehicle and maintain a valid Class G driver's license.
• Must be available to work overtime as required.
• Must successfully complete a Police Information Check.
