Casper Rating Operations Associate - English & French

$60k - $75k per year
Full-time

Acuity Insights

Remote
  • Remote job
Description

Help people be seen for more than their grades.

Every year, thousands of people complete Casper as part of applying to programs in medicine, nursing, and other professions. Casper helps universities and colleges understand more about the human skills applicants bring, beyond academic achievement alone.

Once an applicant completes Casper, another important part of the process begins.

Thousands of written and video responses need to be reviewed and rated carefully and consistently before results can be delivered. Behind that work is a complex operation involving large groups of trained raters, established processes and quality checks, and a team making sure everything moves accurately and on time.

As a Ratings Operations Associate, you’ll become part of the team that makes that happen.

This is an opportunity to learn how a large-scale assessment operation works from the inside. You’ll start close to the day-to-day work, learning the processes, systems, and quality checks that help turn thousands of applicant responses into reliable results. As your knowledge grows, so will your ownership: you’ll learn to recognize when something isn’t working as expected, solve more problems independently, and contribute to making the operation better.

Some of the work, particularly at the beginning, is structured and repetitive by design. There are processes to follow, information to check, systems to update, and recurring tasks that need to happen accurately and on schedule. That hands-on experience is how you’ll build a deep understanding of the operation and the judgment to take on more over time.

You don’t need previous experience in assessment or rating operations. This could be a great opportunity if you’re early in your career and looking to build strong operational foundations, or if you’ve worked as a Casper rater and are curious about the broader operation behind rating. We’ll teach you how Casper rating works and support you as you build your knowledge, confidence, and independence.

You’ll also join at a time when the way we work is evolving. As we explore better tools, automation, AI, and new ways of working, you’ll have opportunities to bring what you’re learning from the day-to-day operation into how we make it simpler, stronger, and more scalable over time.

What matters most is that you’re dependable, attentive to detail, curious about how things work, and excited to learn. If you’re looking for an opportunity to get close to a meaningful operation, build practical experience, and grow your responsibility over time, this could be a strong next step.

This role requires professional fluency in English and French. English is the primary language we work in at Acuity, while your French will help us support French-speaking raters and other operational needs as they arise.

This is a fully remote role open to candidates based anywhere in Canada.

Before you apply: Thoughtful use of AI is encouraged. If you use it to support your application, make sure it helps communicate your experience clearly and accurately. The strongest applications are authentic, original, and unmistakably yours.

The Work You’ll Do

Your work will help keep Casper rating moving from preparation through completion.

Some days, you’ll be preparing upcoming rating work or completing routine checks. Other days, you might be monitoring progress, responding to questions from raters, investigating why something hasn’t happened as expected, updating information in our systems, or working with a teammate to determine what needs to happen next.

As you learn the operation, you’ll start to recognize when something seems unusual, understand what might be causing it, and know what you can resolve yourself and when someone else needs to be involved.

In your first few months, you’ll:

  • Learn how Casper rating works and how the different pieces of the process come together.
  • Build confidence completing recurring rating operations alongside experienced teammates.
  • Learn the systems, timelines, and quality checks the team uses to keep rating moving.
  • Take responsibility for defined operational tasks, with support as you build your knowledge and judgment.
  • Learn how to recognize common issues, investigate what happened, and know when something needs to be escalated.
  • Get to know the people and teams involved in delivering reliable Casper results.

As you grow, you’ll:

  • Take increasing ownership of recurring Casper rating operations from preparation through completion.
  • Become a primary point of contact for our raters, helping answer questions, resolve common issues, and make sure they have the information they need to complete their work successfully.
  • Monitor rating activity and help keep work progressing according to established timelines and expectations.
  • Investigate and resolve common operational issues independently within your scope, bringing in others when needed.
  • Help maintain clear, accurate, and useful documentation for recurring processes.
  • Spot patterns, recurring problems, or unnecessary manual steps and bring opportunities for improvement forward.
  • Use AI, automation, and other tools thoughtfully to make recurring work simpler and more reliable.
  • Become someone teammates can rely on for strong execution and growing knowledge of Casper rating operations.

The Impact You’ll Have

Casper gives applicants an opportunity to show more of who they are beyond their academic achievement. For that to matter, the rating behind every result needs to be reliable.

Your work helps make that possible.

Help rating run reliably. Keep thousands of applicant responses moving through the rating process accurately and on schedule.

Protect the quality of our results. Bring care and attention to operational work where missed details can have consequences further downstream.

Catch problems before they grow. Notice when something doesn’t look right and help make sure it gets the right attention.

Make our operations stronger. Bring forward what you’re seeing in the day-to-day work so we can make processes clearer, simpler, and more reliable over time.

Help rating evolve. What you learn from being close to the day-to-day operation can help us identify better ways to work as our tools, processes, and assessments evolve.

Every process you complete carefully, issue you catch, and improvement you help make contributes to results that applicants and institutions can rely on.

What Success Looks Like

You won’t be expected to understand rating operations on day one. Success starts with learning the work, doing it carefully and consistently, and becoming someone the team can increasingly rely on.

In your first few months, success looks like:

  • Learning established processes and understanding how your work fits into the broader rating operation.
  • Completing recurring work carefully, accurately, and on time.
  • Keeping track of details and responsibilities without things getting lost.
  • Asking questions when you need context and applying what you learn the next time.
  • Catching things that don’t look quite right rather than simply moving them along.
  • Following through on your work and responding well to feedback.

As you grow, success means:

  • Handling recurring rating operations confidently and with increasing independence.
  • Understanding not just what needs to happen, but why it happens and what could go wrong.
  • Using good judgment to resolve common issues and knowing when someone else needs to be involved.
  • Recognizing potential problems early rather than waiting for them to become bigger ones.
  • Looking beyond the immediate task to understand how your work affects the broader rating process and delivery of results.
  • Becoming a trusted and knowledgeable teammate others can count on.

Over time, you’ll know not just what needs to happen, but why it matters, what to look out for, and when something needs extra attention.

Who You’ll Work With

You’ll join Acuity’s Rating Operations team, which is responsible for the operational work that helps turn completed Casper assessments into reliable results.

You’ll work closely with experienced teammates who understand the rating process deeply and will help you build that knowledge yourself. You’ll also work directly with our community of Casper raters, becoming their main point of contact for day-to-day questions and operational support. You’ll help make sure they have the information and support they need while keeping the broader rating operation moving.

You’ll also build relationships across Acuity, including with teams in Research, Product, and Operations, giving you a broader view of how assessment design, rating, technology, and delivery come together.

Because you’ll be close to the day-to-day work, you’ll often see things others don’t. The questions you ask, patterns you notice, and issues you surface can help the team understand what’s happening and make better decisions.

As you grow in the role, you’ll develop a broader understanding of how all the pieces come together to deliver Casper reliably at scale.

What Will Help You Thrive Here

There’s no single background that leads to this kind of work.

You might have experience in operations, administration, customer support, education, data entry, coordination, hospitality, or another environment where being organized, accurate, and dependable mattered.

What matters most is that you’ve had experiences that have started to build the habits this role depends on.

You’re organized and reliable. You can keep track of details, follow a process, manage recurring responsibilities, and follow through on what you say you’ll do.

You pay attention to the details. You notice when information is missing, something doesn’t match, or a step hasn’t happened as expected. You understand that small details can have a meaningful impact.

You’re comfortable with structured and repetitive work. You don’t need every task to be new to stay engaged. You can bring consistency and care to recurring work while still noticing when something could be improved.

You like figuring things out. When something doesn’t go as expected, you’re willing to look into it, gather information, and understand what might be happening before asking someone else to step in.

You communicate clearly and thoughtfully. You can explain what you’re seeing, ask useful questions, and give someone else the information they need to help move something forward.

You have professional fluency in English and French. English is the primary language we work in at Acuity. Your French will help us support French-speaking applicants and contribute to other bilingual operational needs as they arise.

You’re comfortable working with AI. You’re using AI tools, or actively building your ability to use them, to organize information, solve problems, or make repetitive work easier. You’re curious about what these tools can make better while understanding that your own judgment still matters.

How You Approach Work

Beyond experience, we’re interested in how you think, learn, and approach the work in front of you.

Care. You take your work seriously because you understand that other people rely on it. You want things to be accurate and complete, even when the work happens behind the scenes.

Curiosity. You like understanding how things work and why. As you learn a process, you’re interested in what happens before and after your piece of it.

Good judgment. You think before you act. You’re comfortable moving forward when the path is clear and equally comfortable asking for another perspective when it isn’t.

Consistency. You can bring the same attention and care to something the tenth time you do it as you did the first.

A learning mindset. You’re open to feedback, new ideas, and different ways of working. As your knowledge grows, so does your confidence and independence.

An improvement instinct. You notice when something feels unnecessarily difficult, repetitive, or unclear and are willing to ask whether there might be a better way.

Collaboration. You enjoy working with other people, sharing what you know, asking for input, and helping solve problems together.

How We Support You

  • Transparent compensation. The starting salary range for this role is between $60,000–$75,000 CAD. Final offers reflect experience, scope, market alignment, and internal equity.
  • Learning that grows with you. A $3,000 annual learning budget to invest in your development, whether that’s deepening technical skills, building confidence, or exploring new areas of interest.
  • Shared success. Access to employee stock options, so you share in the value you help create.
  • Remote-first work. Fully remote within Canada, with up to six weeks per year to work internationally.
  • Time to rest and reset. Self-directed vacation (most teammates take 4–6 weeks annually), monthly Acuity Days (a collective Friday off), plus a two-week company-wide closure each December.
  • Comprehensive care. Health benefits from day one for you and your dependents.
  • Future-focused support. A 2% GRSP matching program to help you plan ahead.
  • Support for growing families. A 16-week parental leave top-up beyond EI, available to all parents.

What Happens After You Apply

We review every application carefully. Whether you apply directly, are referred, or connect through a recruiter or hiring manager, you’ll receive equal consideration.

We don’t use AI to evaluate applications, though you may be automatically screened out if you don’t meet baseline requirements (e.g. Canadian residency and valid work authorization). In some interviews, AI may help with note-taking, but all evaluations and decisions are made by real humans.

Our interviews are two-way conversations. We want to understand your career, abilities, and goals, and help you assess whether this opportunity and team are the right fit for you.

Steps in the Process

Our hiring process typically takes 2–4 weeks from initial conversation to final decision.

  • Application Review. A real person reviews your application for potential fit.
  • Intro Conversation. A conversation with a member of our Talent team to learn about your career journey, what you’re looking for next, and to introduce you to Acuity, Casper, and the role.
  • Hiring Manager Conversation. A conversation focused on how you approach operational work, solve problems, use judgment, learn, and work with others. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about the role, the team, and the work behind delivering Casper.
  • Team Conversation & Practical Discussion. You’ll meet members of the Operations - Rating team to learn more about how the team works together and explore some of the situations you might encounter in the role. We’ll be interested in how you approach problems, notice important details, use judgment, and communicate your thinking. This stage may also include a practical exercise designed to reflect the work itself.
  • Decision. The hiring manager reviews feedback from the interview team and typically makes a decision within 2 to 4 business days.
  • Offer & Reference Checks. If it’s a match, we’ll move to references and a formal offer.

Life at Acuity Insights

We’re a remote-first team of 135+ people who care deeply about our work and about each other.

Our culture is intentionally designed. As we’ve grown, we’ve made deliberate choices about how we work together, prioritizing trust, flexibility, and a sustainable pace so people can do meaningful work over the long term.

That commitment has been recognized externally. Acuity Insights has been named one of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers for the second consecutive year, reflecting our focus on building a strong, people-first environment.

Day to day, that shows up in how we collaborate:

  • High trust and autonomy in how work gets done
  • Thoughtful, async-friendly communication across a distributed team
  • Space for deep work, balanced with intentional moments of connection
  • A culture grounded in care, curiosity, and shared purpose

As we continue to grow, we’re focused on maintaining that balance, building a company where people can do their best work and grow over time, without losing what makes the environment feel human.

About Acuity Insights

Acuity Insights builds products that help higher education institutions make better decisions about people, from admissions through to development.

Our work is grounded in a simple idea: that people are more than their grades, and that potential can be understood and developed, not just measured.

Our Casper situational judgment test (SJT), created by researchers at McMaster University, has been completed by over 1 million applicants and is one of the most widely used open-response SJTs in higher education, backed by nearly 20 years of research.

Today, we are evolving our products to better connect assessment, insight, and development, helping institutions not just identify potential, but actively support its growth over time. As part of that evolution, we’re increasingly building toward a more connected ecosystem across assessment, education, and learner development. While teams remain focused on their individual products, we’re creating stronger connections across our platform to deliver more cohesive experiences for institutions and learners.
