Secondary Science Teacher (Grade 9-12)
InnovOak School is an inspected Private JK-12 school within the Ontario educational system. We are an education start-up, with a strong academic program that gives students the tools and skills they need to succeed, graduate, and be remarkable in all areas of adult life. We use our experience in elementary and secondary education to create a traditional school setting that manages and adapts nimbly to a changing future. We grant our own InnovOak Honors Graduation Diploma that will begin to include AP courses as we also grand the OSSD.
Due to unexpected enrolment increases, we are looking to build our staff compliment to teach courses in Grade 9-12 Science. This is a part time role for this semester but could be combined with other courses to increase the amount of time. We will have openings in second semester as well.

Teacher Requirements
We are looking for passionate, energetic and enthusiastic teachers who can create a warm and dynamic classroom program that will passionately align to the school's vision, mission and values. As a private school, we require our teachers to seamlessly integrate our approach into a well-managed and well-organized daily program. As an education startup, our teachers are mentors, doers, planners, supervisors, coaches, supporters, who can get things done to keep our programs and the school moving forward as we grow. Responsibilities:
- Teach in person on a regular schedule that allows for a student to successfully learn over a full Semester (September to February)
- Preparing and modifying a course outline and ensuring that content is aligned to the detail in the course and consistently posted on our online platform.
- Post regular updates giving student specific instructions for asynchronous time expectations between lessons (Summary of learning, next steps, homework tasks etc.)
- Develop a academically rigorous course focused on G University bound students (the course should progress with enough skill development, activities, and learning consolidation to meet the needs of a motivated small group)
- Being adaptable and flexible to manage daily learning with a small group of students using a hybrid approach when needed.
- Ensuring students are challenged with appropriate and highly engaging learning content.
- Creatively working with all aspects of assessments for, of, and as learning (Growing Success) using a variety of formative and summative assessments.
- Putting into daily practice elements of good teaching including differentiation of instruction, using success criteria, critical literacy, providing timely feedback, and using voice and choice for differentiated assessment.
- Manage the use of Chat GPT AI by fully monitoring and incorporating process steps over product (in regard to assessment and evaluation)
- Monitoring of student learning on a regular basis - by creating engagement tasks, regular uploads of learning progress and provide student feedback to learning.
- Supporting the development of appropriate learning skills within the course.
- Meticulously completing all teacher administrative tasks including using an electronic Gradebook (Blackbaud), completing timely provincial report cards, ensuring that course meets school's inspection standards, and any other requirements as directed by the Principal.
- Upholding high personal standards of academic and instructional integrity within day-to-day teaching, assessments, and classroom management.
- Supporting student wellbeing, taking a genuine interest in success.
- Ensuring that students have a variety of academically challenging learning activities that meets the 110 hours of credit time that is fully documented for any activities that would fall outside of the dedicated lessons.
Role requirements:

- Related university degree is required.
- A Bachelor of Education preferred, (we will also consider preservice teacher candidates looking to begin their career with us);
- OCT registration is a plus but not required.
- Minimum of two years of professional teaching/tutoring experience in a CANADIAN school or Ontario educational training.
- Must be able to commute to Kitchener and be available to teach during the school day (times and days TBD)
- High School teaching experience preferred, Ontario Secondary School experience a strong plus.
- Experience in writing Report Cards, Student Success, Assessment and Evaluation policies,
- Experience with developing your own courses, creating engaging activities, while managing an engaging classroom presence is desirable.
- Ability to differentiate and ensure student needs are met with a coaching focus.
- Ability and skill to take an OSSD course and innovate the ideas and content to improve student engagement.

- We offer low class sizes of 15:1 (as we scale up to full enrolment, class size is much smaller)
