WHO WE ARE
Royop is a leading commercial real estate development company based in Calgary, with over 60 years of experience delivering innovative and sustainable projects across Alberta.

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
Reporting to the Manager, Development Accounting, the Construction Accountant will work closely with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Project Administrator, Project Controls Accountants, and the Development Accounting Manager.
The successful candidate will maintain accurate project cash flows, monitor commitments and billings, support monthly draws, and ensure financial information reflects real-time project activity. Working closely with Project Managers, Project Administration, and senior leadership, this role supports proactive decision-making by identifying risks early and ensuring project teams have the financial information needed to execute efficiently. Proactive engagement in both financial reporting and team communication is essential.
This position requires a highly organized and analytical individual who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is comfortable working across accounting and operations teams. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accountability and urgency are critical.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Revenue & Cash Flow Management
- Prepare monthly revenue invoices using cash flow forecasts, current projections, and ongoing communication with Project Managers (e.g., quick pays such as concrete pours and equipment).
- Propose and confirm accurate cost to date and percentage completion for each division monthly, aligning with current project status.
- Own monthly revenue invoice process from inception to final approval, leading conversations at all levels of approvals to maintain monthly timeline.
- Ensure cash flows accurately reflect actuals each month for all division contract values, inclusive of budget modifications and approved prime contract changes.
- Maintain detailed and accurate cash flows across all general requirements and CCA cost categories.
- Analyze project cash flow forecasts and actuals to support and drive accurate financial planning, proactive decision-making, risk identification, and strategic adjustments.
Financial Oversight & Risk Management
- Reconcile and track project costs, vendor accounts, and holdbacks to ensure financial accuracy and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Contribute to monthly project reviews, highlighting cost performance, risks, and emerging challenges.
- Identify and flag vendors who are not invoicing consistently month-over-month; proactively notify Project Managers and adjust purchase order commitments directly collaborating with Project Administration.
- Monitor subcontract compliance requirements including statutory declarations, WCB clearance, insurance certificates, and lien documentation.
- Ensure PO commitments remain ahead of billings and adjust current cash flow projections to suit actuals.
- Escalate risks, discrepancies, or projected overruns in a timely manner, with direct escalation to the VP level where appropriate.
Coordination & Reporting Discipline
- Outstanding invoices (ensuring prior month revenue is fully reconciled before the next cycle) and make Development Accountant Manager aware of necessary payments.
- Open or underutilized purchase orders relative to budget.
- Reinforce a structured monthly reporting cadence (using Procore reporting tools) with clear accountability and follow-through.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure timely data entry within Yardi and Procore.
- Replying to the Senior Development Accountant’s queries in a timely manner.
- Providing supporting documentation, including revenue invoices, statutory declarations, consultant certificates, and project updates for all projects in accordance with the monthly schedule.
- Facilitate the financial onboarding of each project in Procore and Yardi, including budget uploads, revenue invoice set up, and initial conversations with project team.
Information Systems & Process
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, reduce reporting gaps, and improve the timeliness and reliability of project financial information (utilizing both Yardi and Procore).
- Assist with training and onboarding related to project accounting processes, systems usage, and reporting best practices.
- Become an internal champion and subject matter resource for Procore financial management and project reporting tools.
WHAT YOU’LL HAVE
Qualifications & Technical Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 5 years of experience in construction/project accounting, with expertise in tracking, cash forecasting, accruals, progress billing and cash management.
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles and contract types and associated terms.
- Experience with Procore and Yardi.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
- Highly process-driven and structured, with a strong bias toward organization and execution.
- Confident and proactive communicator who is comfortable engaging with project teams and senior leadership.
- Demonstrates ownership, accountability, and the ability to drive clarity in sometimes ambiguous operating environments.
Human Skills
- A professional approach in attitude, appearance, and demeanor—paired with strong motivation, flexibility, and a genuine desire to be a positive, enthusiastic team player.
- The ability to communicate clearly and professionally, build strong working relationships, and navigate conflict with effective resolution skills.
- You roll up your sleeves and dive in, heck, they’re already rolled up! A busy day is a good day, especially when you're empowered in your role and backed by a solid team.
- You pivot with ease: shifting priorities and embracing change is second nature.
- You bring passion and heart to everything you do, jumping in with both feet.
- You’ve got great “bow-tying” skills: you enjoy wrapping up projects neatly and delivering polished results.
WHERE YOU’LL WORK
- With real people who truly value you and the culture you work in.
- For one of Alberta’s longest-standing real estate development companies—celebrating 60 years of excellence.
- Alongside passionate people who genuinely love what they do.
- Within a network of colleagues who have your back and will match your commitment to success.
- Among folks who believe that strong relationships are the cornerstone of our business.
- And as part of one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, recognized by Deloitte, where leadership and teamwork fuel our continued success.
