Senior Research Nurse - Cardiovascular Team (Glasgow Clinical Research Facility)

The Role

An exciting career development opportunity has arisen within the Glasgow Clinical Research Facility (GCRF) for a Senior Research Adult Registered Nurse (Band 6). The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality clinical research across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, with a primary focus on cardiovascular research.

Working within a multidisciplinary research team, the post holder will coordinate and deliver a diverse portfolio of clinical studies, including commercial Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs) and complex academic research. While research experience is desirable, applicants with strong clinical experience and transferable skills will be supported to develop research competencies.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• This is a fixed-term post with the opportunity for job share or secondment for 24 months.
• You will be working 36 hours per week over core hours, between 08:00 and 17:00 (typically 08:30–16:30) . Flexibility is required to support research activity, including occasional evenings, weekends and unsociable hours.
• This post is based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital; however, the ability to travel across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde sites is essential.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will coordinate and deliver all aspects of assigned clinical research studies, ensuring the safe, effective and ethical management of research participants throughout their study journey. Responsibilities include recruiting, educating and obtaining informed consent from participants, administering study treatments and interventions in accordance with research protocols, monitoring participants and undertaking follow-up assessments, and maintaining accurate study documentation and data collection. Working closely with Principal and Chief Investigators and the wider multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will manage their own caseload while ensuring studies are delivered in compliance with research governance requirements, Good Clinical Practice and ethical standards. They will apply key research principles including informed consent, confidentiality and randomisation procedures, adapt to a diverse portfolio of research protocols, maintain high standards of participant care, and effectively prioritise their workload to meet study timelines and quality standards.

Essential

• Registered Adult Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Educated to degree level (or working towards) with evidence of continuing professional development.
• Significant current clinical experience, ideally within cardiovascular care.
• Competent in clinical and technical skills including:
• Venepuncture
• Intravenous (IV) drug administration
• Immediate Life Support (ILS)
• Understanding of research principles including:
• Informed consent
• Confidentiality
• Randomisation
• Ethical considerations
• Knowledge of the Research Governance Framework and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
• Excellent organisational, communication and IT skills.
• Ability to prioritise workload and work to agreed timescales.
• Experience of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to work independently and manage own workload.

Desirable

• Previous experience working in clinical research (academic and/or commercial).
• Knowledge of current research governance and regulatory requirements.
• Experience supporting Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs).
• Ability to travel between NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde sites.
• Full UK driving licence (desirable).
