Legal Assistant - Business Law (Tax)

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our Business Law Practice Group supporting our tax team. This role will provide high-level administrative and legal support to lawyers working on complex business law and tax matters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare, format, and revise correspondence, tax memoranda, and legal documents
• Assist with corporate reorganizations, tax planning files, and related documentation
• Open, maintain, and organize client files (physical and electronic)
• Coordinate client communications, meetings, and document execution
• Manage calendars, deadlines, and bring-forward systems to ensure timely completion of work
• Conduct general administrative tasks, including billing support, file closing, and document management
• Liaise with clients, accountants, and other external professionals
• Support compliance with internal processes and Law Society requirements
• Respond promptly to client needs
• Work a team environment sharing workloads and files
• File management including opening, closing and maintaining document management
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Legal Assistant Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution
• Experience in tax is an asset
• 1+ years of experience in Business Law
• Knowledge of NetDocuments or other document managements systems is an asset
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• A high level of skill in verbal and written communication
• Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic and bustling practice
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
