Job Description – Chief Data Architect Director
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)
Job Summary
We are seeking a visionary Chief Data Architect Director to define and govern the enterprise-wide data architecture strategy, enabling business growth, digital transformation, analytics, AI, and regulatory compliance. This executive leadership role serves as the strategic authority on enterprise data architecture, partnering with business and technology leaders to deliver scalable, secure, and trusted data platforms.
The successful candidate will also play a key role in pre-sales and business development , partnering with Sales Executives and senior client stakeholders to shape data transformation strategies and solution offerings across multiple industry sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Data Strategy & Architecture
- Define and own the enterprise data architecture vision, principles, standards, and target-state roadmap aligned with business objectives.
- Establish enterprise standards for data platforms, integration, storage, analytics, AI, and data management.
- Drive architectural decisions that balance scalability, security, performance, cost optimization, and agility.
Executive & Business Partnership
- Partner with C-suite executives, business leaders, and domain owners to align data architecture with strategic business priorities.
- Advise executive leadership on data investments, technology roadmaps, and architectural trade-offs.
- Act as the trusted advisor for enterprise data strategy, enabling business growth, operational efficiency, and risk reduction.
- Support pre-sales, business development, and executive client engagements by providing strategic data architecture expertise.
Data Platform Modernization
- Lead the design and evolution of cloud, on-premises, and hybrid enterprise data platforms.
- Define enterprise patterns for data ingestion, integration, transformation, analytics, AI/ML, and data sharing.
- Ensure enterprise data platforms are resilient, scalable, secure, and production-ready.
Data Governance & Compliance
- Establish enterprise frameworks for data governance, metadata management, data quality, lineage, privacy, and security.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
- Promote trusted, auditable, and governed data as a strategic enterprise asset.
Architecture Leadership & Enablement
- Define the enterprise data architecture operating model, governance processes, standards, and decision frameworks.
- Provide architectural leadership and governance while enabling agile delivery.
- Mentor senior architects and foster enterprise-wide data architecture maturity and best practices.
Success Measures
- Enterprise-wide adoption of the data architecture roadmap.
- Faster, standardized delivery of enterprise data solutions.
- Reduced architectural complexity and technical debt.
- Improved data quality, governance, lineage, and regulatory compliance.
- Scalable data platforms supporting enterprise analytics, AI, and business growth.
Required Skills & Experience
- 12+ years of experience in enterprise data architecture, including leadership of large-scale transformation initiatives.
- Proven success defining enterprise data platform strategies and modernization roadmaps.
- Experience influencing executive leadership and board-level technology decisions.
- Strong expertise in enterprise data architecture (conceptual, logical, and physical models).
- Deep knowledge of cloud data platforms, modern data integration, and distributed architectures.
- Experience designing analytics, business intelligence, and AI/ML enablement architectures.
- Strong understanding of enterprise data governance, metadata management, security, privacy, and compliance.
- Experience delivering enterprise-grade data solutions using SDLC and modern engineering practices.
Leadership Qualifications
- Strategic leader with a strong focus on business outcomes and execution.
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for executive audiences.
