Position Summary
The Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC), in conjunction with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto is seeking one full‑time Academic Malignant Hematologist. The position is a full‑time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with one of the academic position descriptions: Clinician Investigator, Clinician Teacher or Clinician‑in‑Quality and Innovation. Effective start date is January 1, 2027, or shortly thereafter.
Clinical Responsibilities
Clinical responsibilities will include inpatient and outpatient care at SHSC and OCC. Experience and proficiency in lymphoid and myeloid malignancies is required, with particular expertise in the comprehensive management of lymphomas (including cutaneous T‑cell lymphomas), multiple myeloma/amyloidosis, CLL, and Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia. The position also includes participation in the hematology call roster, including management of acute myeloid malignancies and patients who have completed autologous stem cell transplants.
Academic Expectations
Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in research, education, and/or quality improvement. Successful applicants should have a demonstrated record of academic excellence appropriate to their appointment description. For Clinician Investigator candidates, assessments may include research grants, publications in leading journals, invited presentations, awards, and related accomplishments. For Clinician in Quality and Innovation candidates, evidence of advanced training in quality improvement or innovation plus scholarship such as peer‑reviewed publications, presentations, or awards is required. For Clinician Teacher candidates, advanced training and achievement in teaching demonstrated by a strong educational portfolio, teaching awards, curriculum development, or education scholarship is required.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a MD degree, or equivalent, and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and hold or be eligible for Fellowship certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in both Internal Medicine and Malignant Hematology, or have comparable qualifications. A master’s degree (or equivalent advanced training) and a minimum of a 2‑year Malignant Hematology Fellowship are also required. Proficiency in English is a requirement.
Location & Compensation
Based at the Sunnybrook campus, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, this position is funded under an Alternative Payment Plan through the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long‑Term Care. Estimated remuneration is $350,000–$400,000 annually, commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.
