Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist - AHP - Older Peoples Services

The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 7 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist with an interest in Older People’s Rehabilitation to work alongside an established respected and experienced team.
It is essential that you are educated to Diploma/Degree level in Occupational Therapy while being registered with HCPC. You should have significant post graduate experience, including significant previous clinical experience in a relevant area.
This post involves a highly complex and varied caseload incorporating patient assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation and discharge planning. You will be clinically responsible for rotational staff, support worker staff and students, inducting, training and managing staff on a daily basis. You will be actively encouraged to develop through your 4 pillars of practice while participating in CPD, audit and research.
This post with be instrumental in designing and delivering the Occupational Therapy service within the Acute Older Peoples wards across the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and New Victoria sites. It is essential that you are educated to Diploma/Degree level in Occupational Therapy while being registered with HCPC. You should have significant post graduate experience with previous clinical experience in Older Peoples Services, or relevant specialty.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
This is a full time, permanent post and may require the post holder to participate in seven day working/ extended hours working.
This role is based at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Is professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work, including direct and indirect patient care, within scope of practice, as per HCPC guidelines.
- Assesses capacity, gains valid consent and has the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent.
- Using available evidence base, acts independently to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, treat and progress patient care, to maximise functional independence and rehabilitation potential including decision making regarding discharge from care.
- Manages own identified highly complex caseload of patients effectively and efficiently, as well as supporting other staff within the team with management of their caseloads.
- Works as an expert member of a multi-professional team to ensure effective communication and delivery of care
- Provides a comprehensive assessment of equipment needs. The Occupational Therapist assumes responsibility for identifying and prescribing correct equipment relating to an understanding of patient needs, diagnosis and prognosis, and needs to consider clinical contraindications and clinical risk.
Essential
- BSc / Diploma in Occupational Therapy
- Registration with HCPC
- Occupational Health Clearance
- PVG Membership
- Significant post-graduate experience, with significant previous experience in relevant clinical specialty.
- Experience of working with patients with highly complex needs
- Evidence of post-graduate learning at equivalent of Masters level
- Evidence of leading quality improvement work e.g. audit / systematic reviews, research proposals
- Highly developed supervisory skill in developing and supporting staff
- Excellent communication skills, including at senior clinical / managerial level
- Teaching and presentation skills
- Experience of practice education
- Leadership experience
- Highly developed decision making skills
- Highly committed to specialty and profession
- Ability to work under pressure
- Computer literate
Desirable
- Evidence of participation in change / service redesign
- Understanding of statistics and their evaluation.
- Working knowledge of all areas of Clinical Governance including quality, audit and risk assessment.
