TalentWorld is recruiting a Legal Counsel in North York, Ontario for one of its valued partners.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced lawyer to join the Canadian legal team of a rapidly growing international automotive and mobility organization. The successful candidate will provide practical, commercially focused legal advice to senior leadership and business teams across Canada, supporting a broad range of commercial, corporate, regulatory, compliance, privacy, dealer/franchise, and dispute-related matters.

The typical hiring range for this position is $130,000 to $170,000 per year and is specific to candidates located in Ontario. The salary will be determined based on your knowledge, skills, experience, and competencies.

Legal Counsel Responsibilities

Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including automotive finance, dealer and distributor, fleet sales, supply, procurement, after-sales, operational, and service agreements
Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice to senior leadership and internal business stakeholders
Identify, assess, and mitigate legal, regulatory, and commercial risks across the organization
Advise on Canadian automotive regulatory requirements, dealer/franchise matters, privacy, compliance, recalls, and corporate governance
Ensure agreements and business activities align with corporate policies, business objectives, and applicable Canadian laws and regulations
Provide strategic legal guidance during contract negotiations and commercial transactions
Monitor legislative, regulatory, and industry developments affecting the automotive and mobility sectors
Support corporate compliance initiatives, policies, governance requirements, and ethical standards
Develop and deliver legal and compliance training to internal business teams
Manage litigation, claims, disputes, arbitration, and other legal proceedings
Coordinate and oversee external legal counsel and legal service providers
Support cross-border and multi-jurisdictional legal matters as required

Legal Counsel Qualifications

LL.B., J.D., or equivalent law degree from a recognized institution
Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Canada
8+ years of relevant legal experience gained through in-house counsel and/or reputable law firm experience
Strong experience in commercial contracts, contract drafting and negotiation, corporate/commercial law, regulatory compliance, and legal risk management
Automotive, mobility, manufacturing, transportation, or industrial sector experience is a strong asset
Experience with dealer/franchise law, automotive regulatory matters, recalls, litigation, privacy, or dealer compliance is considered a significant asset
Experience managing cross-border or multi-jurisdictional legal matters is an asset
Strong business judgment and commercial awareness with a practical, solution-oriented approach
Excellent analytical, research, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
Fluency in English and French, both written and spoken, is required
