Associate Professor / Professor - Strategic Management

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto invites applications for up to two full-time tenure stream appointments in the Strategic Management Area. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in management or a cognate discipline with a focus on strategic management (e.g., economics, sociology), with a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our  existing strengths .

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence in strategic management, which can be demonstrated through a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field relevant academic journals in the fields of strategy, sociology or economics, the submitted research statement, an active research pipeline, and strong endorsements from referees. We seek individuals with a sustained record of publication in Strategic Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal/Review, American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic Studies, American Journal of Sociology, Management Science, Organization Science, and journals of similar calibre and standing. Further evidence of research excellence includes presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, research presentations at other highly ranked universities, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline.

Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching, including a strong demonstrated ability to integrate both theory and practice; evidence of effective communication and presentation skills; a willingness to undertake graduate supervision; and a demonstrated mastery of their subject area. Experience in teaching in a management or management adjacent program is required.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier and strong letters of reference, and for short-listed candidates, a strong performance during the on-campus seminar presentation. The teaching dossier includes a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate is expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest level, sustain an outstanding research program, and publish articles in internationally recognized top-ranked and field relevant academic journals in the field of strategy and/or cognate disciplines. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide research leadership within the Strategic Management Area, including the supervision and mentorship of doctoral students and junior colleagues.

The successful candidate will be assigned a teaching and service load.

HIRING SALARY RANGE

The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The salary range for this position exceeds $200,000 CAD per annum.
