Design Build Solutions Limited , has been specializing in building lifestyle apartments for seniors, all-inclusive living, assisted living, memory care, and long-term care residences We are a leader in creating aging in place communities for active older adults and have made our mark in Nova Scotia, Ontario and New Brunswick over the last 25 years.
As our name suggests - we focus on design-build - and, more specifically, we design while we are building. This unique approach to construction provides unlimited opportunities to experience, in real time, how design, project management, and construction teams can successfully work together to deliver a fully constructed building to the client that meets high standards of quality and safety. Our goal is to keep the experience of the resident in mind from conceptual design to facility opening, and this requires a exceptional coordination, communication and planning to ensure we've got it just right.
We are seeking an experienced Financial Operations Manager to join our operations team.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team acting as a hub between operations, estimating, accounting, and project teams for project reporting. Blending financial acumen with deep understanding of construction life cycles and outcomes, the key focus of this role is to identify project risks and opportunities when comparing the plan to the current state of construction.

What you will do:
- Present project status report with key insights of where projects are performing against budget and schedule to the senior leadership team.
- Regularly gather, verify, analyze, and interpret information from design, estimating, contracts, project accounting, and construction teams to have deep understanding of where each project is in the construction life cycle.
- Understanding our business model, use curiosity and innovative thinking to participate in solutions-focused discussions of how to mitigate risks to project budget and schedules.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to achieve shared vision of handing over a finished building to our client that exceeds expectations.
- Devise a set of project reports and processes that provide the critical information needed for Project Managers to forecast projects with accuracy and confidence.
- Coach, mentor and hold Project Managers accountable for project status updates and forecasting.
Your experience & abilities
- Boots on the ground building construction experience with good understanding of construction cycle sequencing, best practices, and expected outcomes, whether working the tools, coordinating large-scale projects, or on site-base project management or site superintendent roles.
- Strong financial and construction data analytics experience and ability.
- Depth of education and experience with project financials and planning.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in financial, project management and other software, including the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Must be flexible and a team player.
