Surgical Assistant

What You'll Do

• Prepare operating rooms, surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies to ensure each procedure is ready to begin safely and efficiently.
• Assist surgeons, physicians, nurses, and the clinical team during ophthalmic procedures.
• Maintain sterile technique and ensure strict adherence to infection prevention and control standards.
• Prepare, organize, and verify surgical instruments and equipment before and after procedures.
• Monitor surgical inventory and assist with stocking, cleaning, and maintaining equipment and supplies.
• Support patient preparation before surgery while providing reassurance and compassionate care.
• Respond quickly and professionally to the needs of the surgical team during procedures.
• Ensure treatment rooms and surgical areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with clinical standards.
• Assist with patient flow and contribute to the efficient operation of the surgical department.
• Complete clinical documentation and other administrative responsibilities as required.
• Support quality assurance initiatives and maintain compliance with organizational policies and healthcare standards.
• Perform other related duties to support the continued success of the surgical team.

What You'll Bring

• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) designation is preferred. Equivalent surgical or medical clinical experience will also be considered.
• Previous experience in an operating room, surgical centre, ophthalmology clinic, or medical practice is considered an asset.
• Strong understanding of sterile technique, infection prevention, and patient safety practices.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-first approach.
• Ability to remain calm, focused, and detail-oriented during surgical procedures.
• A collaborative attitude with a willingness to support teammates wherever needed.
• Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and Microsoft 365 is considered an asset.
