We focus on the design, permitting, and construction of commercial, industrial, dealership, aviation, recreational, first nations, and seniors assisted living developments in Western Canada.

Our goal is to meet with clients who are considering a new building, educate them about the construction process as it applies to their ideas, advise them as to the type of construction that best suits their needs, and establish a budget for construction that best serves their resources.

Role Overview

We are currently looking for a Estimator to join our team to lead and establish in-house estimating function in the context of design build Contracting environment. In this role you will be able to work on variety of projects across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario, while collaborating closely with all project stakeholders. This role is ideal for someone who has worked in the GC environment and has experience with a variety of building types and who is both hands on and can organize estimating processes, software and any needed automation and optimization.

In this role, while stand alone, you will work closely with the business development team and participate directly with the ownership team. You will essentially build this function and grow your career for years to come. You will function in a way significantly wider than a standard estimator; you will become our pre-construction lead, constructability and value engineering advisor and will work closely with vendors, suppliers, trades and consultants. We operate as a small, collaborate and effective team, you will need to be both independent and work well with others, you will not be just another estimator on a team, you will report directly to VP Construction. You will have a major impact on our business and a long-term career to come.

Your overall responsibility is to prepare complete conceptual design build or lump sum tender estimates which would include the following:

• Review drawings and specifications to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate and preparation of General Conditions for a complete estimate.
• Participate in Client meetings to determine Owner requirements.
• Participate in consultant meetings to ensure Owner requirements are included in the
• design and meet the budget parameters.
• Prepare list of trades to send tender request to for new projects.
• Preparation of estimates and proposals in support of and in conjunction with the Sales Department.
• Work with estimating software to complete material and quantity takeoffs.
• Turn over of a complete and detailed estimate complete with subcontractor quotes to
• the project manager.
• Prepare a complete budget based on conceptual or minimal drawings.
• Prepare preliminary schedules to assess the timelines needed.
• Knowledge of pre-engineered metal building systems would be an asset.

Background:

• Minimum 4+ years of estimating experience preferably within commercial construction.
• General Contractor experience is a must.
• Completion of post-secondary education with a diploma or degree related to
• Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Engineering or related
• education.
• Understanding of construction documents and the ability to assess the level of
• completeness.
• Knowledge of construction costs and budgets, ability to develop a project schedule.
• Have above average computer skills with the ability to develop a database.
• Must be innovative, detail oriented, well organized, self-motivated, able to multitask,
• work well with tight deadlines and within a team environment.
• Strong computer background including experience with MS Office and related
• estimating software.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership ability along with strong team
• orientation and problem-solving skills.
