Our client, is seeking an experienced, delivery-focused Senior Database Administrator to join their specialized Database Engineering team.
In this senior technical leadership role, you will lead the architecture, administration, and operational support of Microsoft SQL Server platforms across the enterprise environment. You will provide strategic technical direction for database services spanning both Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) configurations, ensuring high availability, scalability, security, and absolute compliance for critical business applications. Operating within a hybrid cloud ecosystem, you will drive modernization, automation, and site reliability engineering (SRE) initiatives to stabilize and streamline distributed data systems. Advanced Database DevOps Ecosystem: Work with cutting-edge Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tooling, designing self-service provisioning pipelines using Terraform and Azure DevOps. Highly Regulated Scale: Build elite structural compliance and security credentials by safeguarding mission-critical systems within a massive healthcare supply network. Hybrid Platform Governance: Lead the configuration, lifecycle management, and day-to-day administration of Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, SQL Server on Azure VMs, and legacy on-premises infrastructure. Migration Engineering: Drive database modernization initiatives, orchestrating seamless data migrations from local data centers to cloud-managed solutions. High-Availability Engineering: Implement, maintain, and test high-availability configurations, including SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances, and geo-replication. Disaster Recovery Strategy: Define and validate concrete recovery plans and objectives (RTO/RPO), leading formal failover testing and routine disaster recovery exercises. Performance Tuning, Security & Compliance
Performance Diagnostics: Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize mission-critical database clusters, conducting deep root-cause analysis and complex query performance tuning. Security Control Implementation: Enforce stringent enterprise security mechanisms, including data encryption, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), compliance auditing, and privileged access workflows. Regulatory Governance: Ensure complete data compliance with strict industry-specific frameworks, including SOX and HIPAA regulations, partnering with cybersecurity teams to actively remediate risks. Oracle Operational Support: Provide tier-3 operational support, patch coordination, performance troubleshooting, and backup/recovery monitoring for legacy Oracle database environments. Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Architect repeatable deployment patterns and automated self-service provisioning workflows leveraging PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines. Reliability Metrics Telemetry: Establish reliability metrics, including SLAs, SLIs, and operational standards, implementing modern observability solutions for proactive threat detection. Cross-Functional Partnership: Provide technical mentorship to junior database engineers; partner across Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, and AppDev squads during major incident problem management. Qualifications
Experience: Minimum 10+ years of dedicated SQL Server administration experience in large enterprise environments, including 5+ years of direct experience supporting Azure database services and cloud platforms. SQL Server Mastery: Deep technical expertise across Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL DB, Managed Instances, and SQL Server Always On Availability Group configurations. Oracle Database Proficiency: Referenceable hands-on experience handling the operational support, minor patch deployment, and backup validation of Oracle database systems. Automation Fluency: Strong scripting and configuration management skills using PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible, and GitHub workflows within an Agile methodology framework. Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related quantitative discipline (or equivalent practical enterprise experience). Soft Skills: Outstanding communication, mentorship, and analytical problem-solving skills; a structured professional who works effectively within an SRE framework and stays cool during high-priority incident responses.
