Who we need

Reporting to the Chair, Bachelor of Interior Design, we are seeking Sessional Faculty to join our Bachelor of Interior Design program. As our new Sessional Faculty, you will deliver course content and assess student performance, with a primary focus on studio-based instruction - guiding students through applied, real-world design scenarios that translate theory into practice.

These are remote (Canada-based) roles with synchronous teaching requirements aligned to EST time zones. Each 12-week term typically includes 1–3 courses. You will have flexibility in setting office hours, while ensuring accessibility for students across time zones.

How you will make an impact

• Deliver applied, studio-based learning. You will teach Interior Design courses with a primary focus on studio-based instruction, guiding students through real-world design scenarios such as client briefs, spatial programming, and concept development. You will help students translate theory into practice through hands-on, project-driven learning.
• Facilitate a highly interactive learning environment. This is a synchronous, high-engagement teaching model. You will lead live sessions, conduct one-on-one progress critiques, and facilitate final project presentations. You will maintain an active presence, supporting students through ongoing dialogue, feedback, and guidance.
• Assess and support student success. You will evaluate student work through project-based assessments, including major design submissions throughout the term. You will provide timely, constructive feedback and maintain regular communication, including weekly office hours, to support student development and progression.
• Collaborate and contribute to program delivery. You will work closely with program leadership and fellow faculty to ensure a consistent and high-quality student experience. You will contribute to course delivery, alignment with program outcomes, and the overall success of the Interior Design program.
• Engage in ongoing development. You will participate in faculty development opportunities and maintain currency in both Interior Design practice and teaching, contributing to a learning environment that reflects evolving industry standards and academic expectations.

What you bring

• The education and academic background. You hold a terminal degree in Interior Design or a closely related discipline. A Master’s degree in Interior Design is strongly preferred; a Master’s in Architecture may be considered where supported by relevant Interior Design experience.
• The professional credentials. You hold a current NCIDQ certification demonstrating professional competency and alignment with industry standards.
• The industry experience. You bring strong professional experience in Interior Design, with exposure to projects across residential, commercial, institutional, or mixed-use environments. Experience in healthcare, workplace, or adaptive reuse design is an asset. 
• The professional commitment. You are committed to ongoing professional development in both Interior Design practice and pedagogy. You maintain currency in the discipline through engagement with industry networks, educational development opportunities, and reflective teaching practice. You bring an interest in or engagement with design research, including conference participation, applied research, or contributions to advancing design knowledge.
• The teaching skills. You are a dynamic and student-centred educator with experience teaching Interior Design or related disciplines in post-secondary settings. You can translate professional practice into applied, studio-based learning environments. You are skilled at facilitating highly interactive, synchronous online and studio-based learning environments and at adapting instructional approaches to support diverse learners. You are committed to bridging theory and practice to support student success and engagement.
• The technical skills. You are proficient in industry-standard design software, including AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Photoshop, and can integrate these tools into studio instruction. You are also proficient in an LMS  and Microsoft Office Suite, and comfortable using educational technologies to support learning delivery.
• The interpersonal skills. You build effective and respectful working relationships with students, colleagues, and academic partners. You demonstrate strong collaboration skills, sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism in all academic and administrative responsibilities.

Compensation

Compensation is $5750 per studio course, and  $4250 per theory based course.

• Preparation of a 10-minute presentation on a provided topic.
• An interview with the Hiring Committee, including the Chair of Interior Design, to further explore your teaching approach, industry experience, and ability to engage students. You will be asked to deliver your presentation as part of this step.
