The City of Port Coquitlam is looking for an energetic individual for an opportunity within the Finance Department as a Buyer Storekeeper. This position performs purchasing and storekeeping work involving the procurement of a broad range of goods and services to support the requirements of all City departments and is also responsible for the daily operational requirements of the City’s Stores.

Key responsibilities 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Obtain suppliers’ quotations and bids; analyzes proposals and makes recommendations to the requesting departments and/or the Supervisor; and formalizes resulting contracts
• Liaises with user departments to develop specifications and evaluation criteria for various goods, services and capital works tenders to ensure best value in accordance with approved practices and policies
• Requisitions and/or directly purchases materials, services and equipment, and expedites same
• Plans and/or directs and/or performs the operations of City’s Stores, including but not limited to; ensuring appropriate stock levels are maintained, orders stock items, receives, checks quality, placement of stock onto pallet racking and shelving, the safekeeping, organization and cleanliness of stores areas, and friendly customer service
• May supervise and check the work of one or more subordinates engaged in clerical, storekeeping and elementary purchasing assignments; and provides training as required.

The successful candidate for this position will have:

• Considerable knowledge of public tendering principles and practices.
• Considerable knowledge of storekeeping methods, policies and procedures used in receiving, ordering, issuing and storing a variety of parks, public works, waterworks, electrical, automotive and stationery supplies, materials, tools and equipment.
• Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of the Municipal purchasing function.
• Considerable knowledge of the types and uses of supplies, materials and tools required in Municipal construction and maintenance.
• Working knowledge of computerized inventory, fuel and hazardous materials control systems as well as purchasing software systems.
• A Certificate in Purchasing from a recognized post-secondary institute.
• Sound related purchasing experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia - Class 5 and a Forklift Certificate.
