Business Development Executive – Construction
Location: Calgary, AB
Compensation: Salary + Performance-based commission structure
Our client is seeking a seasoned Business Development Executive to lead growth across the Western Canadian markets. This is an entrepreneurial, relationship-driven position focused on identifying high-value construction opportunities, navigating long and complex buying journeys, and building trusted relationships with senior decision-makers.
The successful candidates will manage the front end of the project lifecycle, develop sustainable sales pipelines, and work closely with senior management to shape market-entry and client-development strategies.

Our client is seeking a seasoned Business Development Executive to lead growth across the Western Canadian markets. This is an entrepreneurial, relationship-driven position focused on identifying high-value construction opportunities, navigating long and complex buying journeys, and building trusted relationships with senior decision-makers.
The successful candidates will manage the front end of the project lifecycle, develop sustainable sales pipelines, and work closely with senior management to shape market-entry and client-development strategies.
Must Haves
- Proven success developing new business and generating revenue within construction or a closely related industry
- Established track record of selling high-value services through long, multi-stage sales cycles
- Ability to build credibility and lasting relationships with owners, developers, executives and other senior decision-makers
- Strong leadership, commercial judgment and entrepreneurial drive
- Ability to independently identify prospects, create opportunities and convert relationships into qualified projects
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to meet clients, visit markets and pursue new opportunities
- Strong communication, negotiation, presentation and relationship-management skills
- Based in or well connected to the Calgary market
Nice to Haves
- Existing network of owners, developers, consultants and construction decision-makers across Alberta
- Business development experience with a general contractor or design-build organization
- Experience with industrial, commercial, institutional, remote or pre-engineered metal building projects
- Understanding of construction estimating, preconstruction, procurement and project delivery
- Experience developing new territories or implementing market-entry strategies
- Familiarity with CRM systems, pipeline reporting and sales forecasting
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or pursuing projects in remote locations
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a business development strategy for Western Canadian markets
- Identify target sectors, prospective clients and high-value construction opportunities
- Generate new leads through networking, market research, referrals, travel and direct outreach
- Build long-term relationships with senior decision-makers and position the company as a trusted construction partner
- Manage complex, multi-step buying journeys from initial contact through qualification and internal handover
- Maintain a healthy, accurate sales pipeline and provide regular forecasts and market intelligence
- Collaborate with senior management on market-entry strategies, target accounts and growth priorities
- Work closely with estimating, preconstruction and operations teams to evaluate and pursue qualified opportunities
- Represent the organization at client meetings, industry events, conferences and networking functions
- Track competitor activity, emerging projects and broader market trends across Alberta
- Support proposal development, presentations, negotiations and the transition of awarded projects to delivery teams
- Strengthen client loyalty through consistent follow-up, responsiveness and relationship management
