Salary Range : $67,863.00 To $76,342.00 Annually
Location: Kamloops BC, supporting conservation work across BC’s Interior
Position Type: Full-time, 15-month contract with the possibility of extension
Taking care of our environment has never been more important than it is today. The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is looking for a Stewardship Coordinator to join a team committed to protecting our most important natural areas and the plants and animals they sustain.
NCC is the nation’s leading not-for-profit, private land conservation organization, working to protect our most important natural areas and the species they sustain. Since 1962, we have brought people together to conserve and restore more than 20 million hectares across Canada. NCC takes a collaborative, evidence-based approach to achieve conservation success for the sake of nature and Canadians. With a national office in Toronto and seven regional offices across the country, NCC delivers results you can walk on.
NCC recognizes that we work on lands that have long been cared for by Indigenous Peoples under their own laws and knowledge systems. We are committed to transforming how we do our work, advancing Reconciliation through conservation, and working with Indigenous Peoples in meaningful, respectful, and supportive ways.
The Opportunity
BC’s Interior Program Area includes the Cariboo-Chilcotin, Thompson-Nicola, and South Okanagan regions. Reporting to the Interior Program Manager and working under the direction of the Interior Program Director, the Interior Stewardship Coordinator will coordinate stewardship activities across NCC conservation lands, with a primary focus on the Thompson-Nicola and South Okanagan regions and additional support in the Cariboo-Chilcotin as needed.
In this role, you will help plan, implement, monitor, and report on stewardship actions that support NCC’s property management strategies and priority landscape planning. You will work closely with colleagues, contractors, partners, Indigenous nations, landowners, agreement holders, and community members to advance conservation outcomes across a diverse and ecologically significant region.
What You’ll Do
Land Stewardship
- Lead and support stewardship and monitoring activities for a portfolio of NCC conservation lands across BC’s Interior Program Area.
- Monitor conservation covenants and fee simple conservation lands, including annual inspections and reporting.
- Coordinate invasive species management plans, restoration prescriptions, livestock management plans, and other land management activities.
- Manage and monitor land use permits, licences, tenures, grazing and haying agreements, and other access authorizations.
- Develop and manage contracts and oversee contractors delivering work on NCC properties.
- Support priority landscape planning and the development of baseline inventory and documentation reports.
- Maintain accurate stewardship, agreement, species observation, and monitoring records in NCC’s information systems.
- Complete practical land management tasks such as sign installation, site cleanup, access management, and fence maintenance.
Partnerships and Community Engagement
- Build and maintain positive relationships with Indigenous nations, neighbouring landowners, agreement holders, community members, governments, municipalities, and environmental organizations.
- Coordinate, support, and attend volunteer, donor, and community engagement events as needed.
- Represent NCC professionally in meetings, workshops, public settings, and the communities where we work.
Reporting and Program Support
- Ensure stewardship actions are aligned with approved NCC policies and processes, as well as relevant provincial and federal laws and regulations.
- Complete annual conservation covenant monitoring and conservation area inspection reports.
- Enter data and upload documents into NCC’s Land Resource Manager Information System and GIS-based Project Information Portal.
- Support annual stewardship work planning, activity tracking, budgeting, and progress reporting.
- Track and monitor land use agreements, including research, access, licences, and leases.
- Assist with reports, applications, and proposals related to grants and funding agreements.
- Complete office administrative tasks, monthly time and billing, expense reporting, workplace inspections, and maintenance of field gear and work vehicles.
What You Bring
Education and Knowledge
- An undergraduate degree in a related discipline such as range management, conservation biology, natural resource conservation, forestry, geography, environmental science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of BC Interior landscapes, communities, and conservation issues.
- Hands-on experience, relevant certifications, or demonstrated commitment to conservation and protected areas management are valued.
Experience and Skills
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with partners and colleagues.
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities.
- Project management experience, including managing budgets, contractors, and multiple priorities.
- Experience with stewardship or restoration projects in grasslands, forests, wetlands, or other conservation landscapes in the Interior of British Columbia.
- Experience preparing grant applications, funding proposals, reports, or similar written materials.
- Experience collecting field information, using databases, and working with spatial data or GIS platforms.
- Comfort working in both physically challenging outdoor environments and office-based or home-office settings.
- Ability and willingness to complete practical field tasks such as fence repairs, sign installation, site cleanup, and access management.
- Experience driving rough access roads, working in remote locations, and navigating rural or remote areas.
- Commitment to following health and safety protocols, including procedures for remote work and field check-ins.
Competencies:
- Collaborative, adaptable, and effective in a fast-paced team environment.
- Solution-oriented and able to find creative approaches when barriers arise.
- Organized and able to meet project and reporting deadlines while balancing competing priorities.

- Experience with conservation land management practices, including access management and invasive species management.
- Accountable and comfortable working independently in a remote or semi-remote virtual work environment.
- Ability and willingness to travel for multi-day field trips, including occasional trips of one to two weeks and some weekend work.
