ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Director – Indigenous Health, N’doo’owe’ Binesi, the Clinical Manager - Nanda Minoyaa - Indigenous Health Team is responsible for providing support to the coordination and delivery of culturally relevant and safe care within a clinical setting and providing clinical leadership to a team within Indigenous health services, by supervision of clinical and non-clinical staff, and ongoing program and service development that promotes Indigenous pathways to healing. The Clinical Manager supports the development of team members by demonstrating leadership through role modeling, mentorship and coaching. The Clinical Manager collaborates and partners with other teams and clinicians within SJCG program areas where Indigenous clients are served to enhance plans of care that include Indigenous culture and wise practices.
The Clinical Manager - Nanda Minoyaa - Indigenous Health Team will play a key role in the ongoing development of a dynamic team that is Indigenous-led. The Nanda Minoyaa - Indigenous Health Team, will provide culturally safe client and family centered care for Indigenous clients and residents at SJCG. This specialized team will have strong knowledge of historical trauma and will understand its relationship to health outcomes today. The team will understand Indigenous culture and wholistic concepts of wellness, along with the social determinants of health affecting Indigenous Peoples. The Clinical Manager will be familiar with traditional healing methods and ceremonies, and ensure clients receive service that is wholistic in a manner consistent with the Medicine Wheel philosophy.
This temporary position is expected to remain in effect until August 2027, with the potential for extension.

WHAT YOU BRING
Education/Experience:
- An individual who is of Indigenous ancestry with an in-depth understanding of Indigenous culture and tradition, worldview, history, ceremonies, healing practices and language and the impacts of colonialism on health and wholistic wellness is preferred
- An individual who possesses a strong understanding of systemic Indigenous-specific racism in healthcare, and has experience in utilizing culturally safe, trauma-informed approaches to addressing harm and conflict
- A Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in a related field (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Indigenous Studies, Health, or a related discipline)
- Current registration with a professional college or professional regulatory body
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working with Indigenous People in a supervisory role within the health or social service field
- Experience working with Elders, Traditional Healers and Knowledge Keepers
- Experience developing, implementing and sustaining network/partnerships
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing, and to work effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders
- Ability to establish and nurture effective and collaborative working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including community partners within the Indigenous community
- Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate, guide, and develop staff
- Demonstrates knowledge and commitment to the Health Ethics Guide developed by the Catholic Health Alliance of Canada (CHAC), First Nations principles of data ownership, control, access, and possession (OCAP), and Accreditation Canada/Health Standard Organization British Columbia Cultural Safety and Humility Standard.
- Well versed in The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s final report (specifically the healthcare calls to action), the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, In Plain Sight: Addressing Indigenous –Specific Racism and Discrimination in Healthcare and adult learning principles and practices
- Passionate about contributing to positive social change and commitment to anti-oppression and anti-racism in the health care system
- Strong project/time management, analytical/critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision making skills
- Ability to work independently, interdependently, and participate as a contributing member of a variety of teams within the workplace
- Ability to support the multi-faith context
- Knowledge of social services, health services, and cultural practices, particularly related to Indigenous peoples
- Proficiency with office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, as well as Canva and Meditech
- Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin or Anishininimowin is preferred
- Demonstrated regular attendance at work
Asset:
- Ongoing involvement with Indigenous culture and traditions, comprehensive knowledge, understanding and awareness of Indigenous traditions, ceremony, teachings, and practices
Conditions of Employment:
- This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, to meet service needs
- Will be required to travel to various work locations, providing own transportation
