Laboratory Supervisor

As Laboratory Supervisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the materials testing laboratory, including staff supervision, sample management, testing quality, equipment calibration, reporting, turnaround times, and compliance with applicable standards and accreditation requirements. Your Main Responsibilities

As the Laboratory Supervisor, your responsibilities will include:

• Supervise, mentor, train, and coordinate laboratory and field technicians/technologists, ensuring compliance with testing procedures, quality requirements, equipment use, documentation, and health and safety practices;
• Manage daily laboratory operations, including sample flow, testing priorities, scheduling, workload planning, turnaround times, technician utilization, timesheet review, and resource allocation;
• Oversee and perform laboratory testing, including concrete, soil, aggregate, and rock materials testing (e.g., compressive strength, gradation, hydrometer, Atterberg limits, Proctor, consolidation, fall cone, shear strength, and UCS testing);
• Ensure testing is conducted in accordance with CCIL, CSA, ASTM, MTO, AASHTO, and project-specific requirements;
• Maintain accurate sample logs, laboratory records, calibration and registration certificates, equipment manuals, quality documentation, and related records;
• Review and verify test data, calculations, worksheets, reports, summaries, data sheets, graphs, and other deliverables prior to submission;
• Oversee the quality of laboratory and field work through data verification, quality control checks, work process audits, proficiency testing, accreditation support, correlation programs, audits, and CCIL assessments;
• Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated, and operating properly, while routinely inspecting work areas to maintain safe, clean, and efficient conditions;
• Coordinate communication between clients, project managers, laboratory staff, field staff, and management;
• Support laboratory budgeting, invoicing, accounts payable/receivable, financial tracking, and resource planning;
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency, quality control, and work processes;
• Support business development activities, including preparing materials testing quotations and proposals;
• Apply and promote Englobe's health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.

What Makes You Unique

• Completion of a provincially recognized three-year Technician or Technologist program is required;
• C.Tech., C.E.T., or eligibility to obtain the designation is required; P.Eng. designation is considered an asset;
• Minimum four years of laboratory materials testing experience, including at least two years supervising laboratory operations or technical staff;
• Experience working within a CCIL-accredited laboratory environment, with valid CCIL/CSA certifications or eligibility to obtain them;
• Strong knowledge of ASTM, CCIL, CSA, MTO, AASHTO, and other applicable standards related to soil, aggregate, concrete, and rock testing;
• Understanding of civil engineering, construction materials testing, laboratory quality systems, and occupational health and safety requirements;
• Strong technical writing, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage staff, samples, priorities, deadlines, and reporting requirements;
• Ability to regularly lift and handle samples weighing up to 25 kg;
• Valid driver's licence and eligibility to obtain security clearance;
• Demonstrated commitment to health and safety, quality control, and continuous improvement.

The salary range for this position is $ $77,771 to $102,075 CAD base per annum, based on the responsibilities of the role, internal equity, and current market benchmarks. The final offer will be determined based on a combination of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience and qualifications, their positioning within our internal compensation structure, and relevant geographic cost-of-living considerations, where applicable. This range represents a realistic and good-faith estimate of the compensation we expect to offer for this role.

Compensation may also include a comprehensive benefits package, performance incentives, or bonus eligibility depending on role level and business unit. We aim to foster transparency, respect candidate time and ensure equitable compensation aligned with our company values.
