Role Description

This is a full-time, hands-on assistant role based in Hamilton, ON, supporting the Fundraising and Development team with social media and fundraising communications across multiple platforms.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Fundraising and Development, the Social Media and Communications Assistant (Summer) will assist in day-to-day social media tasks and fundraising event support activities, working under the guidance of the Marketing Coordinator in a collaborative, team-based environment.

This role is well-suited for a student or recent graduate looking to gain experience in the nonprofit sector with an interest in learning more about marketing and fundraising. This is a summer position under the Canada Summer Jobs program designed to give the incumbent practical experience in nonprofit communications and fundraising in a collaborative, team-based environment.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a post-secondary program in a related field.

• Experience using social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.).

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks with guidance.

• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.

• Able to maintain confidentiality with donor and organizational information.

• Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with Canva or MailChimp is an asset.

• Prior volunteer or work experience in a nonprofit setting is an asset but not required.

Work Conditions

• Primarily office-based with occasional attendance at community or fundraising events.

• Extended periods of sitting and computer use.

• Manual dexterity required for operation of desktop computer and peripherals.

• Able to occasionally lift items as heavy as 25 lbs.

• Interaction with employees, management, donors, and members of the public.

• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
