Quality Improvement Specialist (QIS)

Job Responsibility:
We are seeking a 2-year , Temporary Full time Quality Improvement Specialist at the Brenda Strafford Foundation.
The Quality Improvement Specialist (QIS) works as a highly engaged and collaborative team member to CLIQ team. The QIS provides technical assistance, directional guidance, and project and change management support to a variety of stakeholders and champions a culture of continuous quality improvement and service excellence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Functions horizontally across the BSF, supporting QI needs in continuing care, International health and our social impact areas.
· Designs system and process changes that lead to operational improvement.
· Uses project management techniques to identify and proactively manage project risks.
· Leads special projects to achieve measured results and desired outcomes in targeted areas.
· Leads and guides change management processes.
· Works with stakeholders to implement, monitor, sustain, and evaluate specific QI initiatives that support BSF's strategic objectives.
· Attends and chairs committee meetings to provide advice on quality improvement matters and initiatives.
· Monitors compliance with Accreditation Canada standards on an ongoing basis.
· Supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of key strategic initiatives.
· Collaborates with areas within the BSF to develop new service models to support BSF strategies and objectives.
· Supports the development and implementation of organizational policies and procedures.
· Coordinates internal/external audits in collaboration with the Performance & Analytics Specialist
· Contributes to the development and revision of risk management tools and resources such as emergency preparedness efforts; infection prevention and control practices, and others as assigned
· Participates in incident reviews and root cause analysis as required.
· Provides education and support to directors, managers, and frontline staff relating to risk management, resident/patient safety, infection prevention and control, and other workplace improvement initiatives as required.
· Works in tandem with education department to ensure processes are adopted consistently
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
· Bachelor's degree - preference for clinical studies
Experience and Attributes
· 5+ years in Quality Improvement
· Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks
· Research skills to identify best practices
· Change management
· Communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey information
· Leadership skills to lead individuals and initiatives actively and effectively
· Interpersonal skills to build rapport and maintain strong working relationships across functional and reporting levels
· Strategic thinking skills to take a big-picture view and combine it with granular details while anticipating issues
· Measurement and analytical skills to ensure desired goals are achieved
· Use of quality improvement tools and continuous process improvement techniques
· Project management skills to accomplish tasks and actualize defined objectives
· Knowledge on record management best practices
WORKING CONDITIONS
· 40 hours per week
· Flexible schedule may be required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Office Environment: Most of the time is spent sitting or standing in the same location with liberal opportunity to move about. Occasionally required to stoop or lift light articles.
· May involve a considerable amount of computer work that may cause eye strain, headaches or ergonomic concerns. Involves repetitive activities/motions.
· Refer to the Task Inventory in the Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
In accordance with the Alberta Protection for Persons in Care Act, all successful candidates are required to complete a criminal record check prior to commencing employment.
