Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Unit Manager plays a key leadership role in supporting high-quality patient care across Cardiac Diagnostics (Nuclear Cardiology, ECG, and Echocardiography) and the ambulatory Cardiac Electrical Device Clinics in Calgary, including services supporting cardiac device implant procedures at Foothills Medical Centre. Working alongside an experienced and supportive interdisciplinary leadership team, you will have the opportunity to grow and further develop your leadership skills while making a meaningful impact on patient care, staff development, quality improvement, and operational excellence. Through effective stewardship of human, financial, and material resources, you will help shape the delivery of specialized cardiovascular services and contribute to excellence in patient outcomes. The Unit Manager is responsible and accountable for daily operations, service-level decision-making, and achieving operational and patient care goals. Key responsibilities include staff recruitment and development, performance management, scheduling, patient and family support, budget monitoring, equipment and supply planning, and participation in capital projects and service improvements. Success in this role requires strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across Alberta Health Services and external partners to advance quality patient care and operational excellence. The Unit Manager is responsible for the daily operation and supervision of unit staff within Cardiac Diagnostics and Cardiac Implantable Electrical Device Clinic at the Foothills Medical Centre. In conjunction with the Patient Care Manager, the Unit Manager participates in budget planning, implementing and maintain standards of practice, hiring, supervising and evaluating professional and support staff. Strong quality improvement and change management skills are necessary to achieve improved outcomes in patient satisfaction, quality care and resource utilization. Cardiac Diagnostics Departments (Nuclear Cardiology, Electrodiagnostic, Echocardiogram) provide comprehensive diagnostic services for both inpatient and outpatient populations at Foothills Medical Centre and Arthur Child Cancer Center. Cardiac Implantable Electrical Device Clinic provides consultation management and follow-up care with pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) and implanted loop recorders. The clinics in Calgary Zone offer regular follow-up care to make sure pacemakers and ICDs are working properly and to watch for any other heart-related problems.

Required Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a health sciences discipline, business, management, or a related field. Current registration with an applicable professional regulatory body. A minimum of five years of recent healthcare experience in an acute care and/or ambulatory setting. Demonstrated leadership abilities, including effective decision-making, coaching, mentoring, and leading organizational change. Experience managing operational and financial resources, including budget planning, monitoring, and resource allocation. Proven ability to build collaborative relationships, engage stakeholders, and foster a respectful, inclusive work environment. Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational abilities, and strong clinical judgment. Self-directed, adaptable, and able to effectively manage competing priorities in a dynamic healthcare environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant computer applications.
