Senior UI Tech Artist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior UI Tech Artist based in Canada. This role sits at the intersection of visual design, technical art, and game development, helping shape the systems that power engaging in-game user interfaces. You’ll establish efficient workflows and technical standards that enable UI artists and developers to create high-quality experiences at scale. Working closely with designers, programmers, artists, producers, and other disciplines, you’ll turn creative concepts into performant, shippable UI systems. The role combines hands-on material and shader development with performance optimization, prototyping, and technical problem-solving. You’ll have significant ownership over key UI technologies while helping evolve pipelines and bring new ideas into production. Accountabilities: - Partner with UI artists to establish best practices, efficient workflows, and technical standards for UI development. - Collaborate closely with UI programmers to develop and implement new engine features and capabilities. - Monitor and analyze UI memory usage and performance throughout the development lifecycle, identifying opportunities for optimization. - Create efficient, user-friendly shaders and materials for use in game UI. - Evaluate technical challenges associated with UI art and UX concepts and clearly communicate potential solutions and constraints. - Research, prototype, and develop new art pipelines and technical approaches that improve production workflows. - Support teammates in bringing creative and technically challenging ideas to life through practical, scalable solutions. - Take ownership of shippable UI content and systems, ensuring they meet high standards for quality, performance, and memory efficiency. Requirements: - 6+ years of professional experience in the game industry or a closely related technical art environment. - Expert-level knowledge of Unreal Engine 5, particularly the Material Editor and UMG.

- Strong ability to collaborate effectively with artists, designers, programmers, producers, and other multidisciplinary teams. - Demonstrated ability to create and deliver production-ready content and systems that are performant and memory efficient. - Strong technical problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex UI and UX challenges. - Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects, and self-direct when required. - Working knowledge of HLSL or GLSL is a plus. - Experience with Python scripting or another programming language is a plus. - Familiarity with 3D modeling applications and image-editing software is a plus. - Experience developing for current-generation platforms such as Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 is a plus. - Experience with other widely used or proprietary game engines, such as Unity, is a plus. - Strong balance of creative and visual sensibility with technical art expertise.
