Our Social Enterprise Fund (SEF) is ECF’s primary social impact investing vehicle. SEF invests patient capital in organizations and initiatives that deliver meaningful social benefit. Our clients include non-profits, social enterprises, co-operatives, and for-profit businesses working in areas such as affordable housing, social challenges, food security, environment, and culture.

The Manager, Impact Investments is responsible for sourcing, assessing, and structuring social impact investment opportunities that advance ECF’s mission while ensuring prudent stewardship of capital. Reporting to the Executive Director, SEF, this role focuses on building relationships across the community, identifying opportunities for impact-oriented financing, and structuring investments that may include loans, guarantees, or equity participation.

Working closely with internal partners and external stakeholders, the Manager, Impact Investments leads the origination and underwriting of investments that support community priorities, including affordable housing and other mission-aligned initiatives.

Investment Origination

Source and develop a pipeline of impact investment opportunities aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities, including affordable housing and other community-focused initiatives.

Identify and evaluate potential investment opportunities across a range of structures, including loans, guarantees, and potential equity investments.

Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, co-operatives, social enterprises, developers, and other potential partners.

Engage with community stakeholders to understand emerging needs and opportunities for impact-oriented capital.

Relationship Management & Community Engagement

Develop and maintain trusted relationships with organizations seeking capital and with ecosystem partners across the community.

Represent SEF in meetings, events, and community discussions related to social finance and impact investing.

Underwriting & Risk Assessment

Conduct financial and operational due diligence on prospective investments, including analysis of financial statements, business plans, and project feasibility.

Assess credit risk and investment viability, identifying potential risks and mitigation strategies.

Prepare investment analyses and recommendations for internal review and approval.

Investment Structuring

Structure financing solutions that balance impact objectives with appropriate risk management.

Develop and negotiate investment terms, including loan structures, guarantees, and potential equity participation where appropriate.

Identify and define key financial and impact performance metrics associated with each investment, including financial targets and relevant social impact indicators.

Work with internal teams and partners to ensure appropriate reporting expectations are established to monitor both financial performance and social outcomes.

Work with legal and other advisors to support the documentation and closing of investments.

Work closely with internal teams responsible for finance, legal, and investment administration to ensure smooth execution and ongoing monitoring of investments.

Contribute to the development of processes, policies, and tools that support ECF’s impact investing activities.

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of financial expertise, sound judgment, and a genuine interest in using capital to support community impact. A post-secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Public Administration, or a related field.

A minimum five years of directly related work experience (e.g. lending, investment analysis, social finance, or a related field).

Equivalent combinations of related post-secondary education and directly related work experience will be considered. Candidates who do not meet the minimum work experience requirements may be considered at a lower classification and/or salary level.

CFA, CIM, CAIA, CBV, etc.) or progress toward certification is an asset.

Technical Knowledge & Experience

Strong financial analysis and risk assessment skills, including the ability to interpret financial statements and evaluate investment opportunities.

Experience structuring financing solutions such as loans, guarantees, or equity investments is an asset.

Familiarity with loan workouts, restructurings, or managing challenged or default accounts is considered an asset.

Working knowledge of legal, agreement, and security documentation (e.g., loan agreements, guarantees, registrations, corporate records).

Microsoft 365) and comfort working with CRM, portfolio management, or similar systems.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to assess risk, identify emerging issues, and navigate complex or ambiguous information.

Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations and insights.

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive relationships with borrowers, partners, and community stakeholders.

Community & Sector Knowledge

Understanding of affordable housing finance, social enterprise financing, or community investment is an asset.

Experience working with non-profits, social enterprises, co-operatives, or community economic development organizations is considered an asset.
