Banking Full-time Analyst

Financial Services is a department within the Vice President - People, Finance and Digital Services portfolio which supports the academic goals and objectives of the University through excellent financial management, and effective and appropriate use of all financial resources (operating, research, trust and capital funds). The University’s decentralized management model places financial management responsibility within every division of the University as well as within Financial Services. The major long-term priority for the office includes:

• to meet legislative, regulatory and reporting requirements for financial activities;
• to direct and manage key activities with the external financial community on behalf of the University (e.g. banking, treasury);
• to efficiently and effectively deliver core services to divisions that are provided centrally by Financial Services

The Financial Services Department (FSD) provides financial expertise to the University’s community. Comprised of a group of accounting professionals, the FSD office is focused on financial reporting and the University Guide to Financial Management policy compliance. As the Intermediate Financial Analyst, you will perform a broad range of duties including financial reporting, analysis and financial management. Overseeing the financial management of budgets that include strategic planning, analysis and forecasting.

• Advising staff on accounting practices and University financial policies and procedures.
• Interpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisions.
• Forecasting and planning financial activities incorporating budgets with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries.
• Implementing plans and process improvements for financial administration activities.
• Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on funding accounts for grants and contracts. Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements.
• Performing complex financial data modeling and analysis.
• Conducting financial research and analysis.
• Identifying and analyzing data discrepancies and taking necessary actions to correct errors.
• Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements.
• Reviewing asset purchase expenses and determines proper accounting treatment according to the University financial policies and Canadian Accounting Standards.
• Reconciling conference fund accounts
• Preparing government reports such as Statistics Canada report and Council of Ontario Finance Officers Financial report

Bachelor's Degree with focus in accounting, advanced standing in a recognized accounting program or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Minimum five years’ related financial experience in accounting, modeling, analysis, and financial reporting, in a University or similar public sector environment.
• Experience in capital project management and knowledge of construction industry.
• Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, including expert knowledge of MS Excel and Financial Information System (FIS).
• Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of accounting principles.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and execute complex projects and manage conflicting priorities within established timelines.
• NOTE: This position is 70% on site.
