Event Planning Assistant
Hospice Niagara
Hospice Niagara, a not-for-profit charitable organization that focuses on improving the quality of life for people living with life-limiting illnesses, death, dying, grief and loss, is seeking a Events Assistant for a Contract Summer Position. Qualifications
Eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs Program;
Between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
Valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
Educational emphasis on community relations, event management, or related discipline
Some physical requirements to set-up and tear down events, and move supplies
Valid Ontario “G” driver’s license and access to personal vehicle with current vehicle insurance policy indicating a minimum of $1 million liability
Key Responsibilities
Support with planning, implementing and evaluating major fundraising events, campaigns and lotteries (including Niagara Mega 50/50, Swing Hard for Hospice Niagara, Smile Cookie, TASTE and Hike for Hospice Niagara)
Assist with volunteer stewardship and support — ensuring volunteers feel prepared, appreciated and engaged
Support onsite Niagara Mega 50/50 ticket sales, including processing payments and engaging the public
Provide Niagara Mega 50/50 customer service support (in person, phone or email)
Oversee and participate in Niagara Mega 50/50 pop-up sales, including volunteer coordination, scheduling, logistics and set-up
Solicit and pick up in-kind contributions (prizes, auction items, gift cards, merchandise, etc.) from community partners and donors
Support the Smile Cookie campaign on-site — coordinating volunteers and helping with cookie decorating shifts
Provide information and insights to support post-event reporting, event review, and continuous improvement
Provide marketing support as required (content support, distribution and promotion of marketing materials, etc.) for events and lotteries across Niagara

Skills & Attributes
Highly competent in Microsoft Office
Strong accuracy with data entry and confident working with Excel spreadsheets
Experience in event planning and implementation
Outgoing, friendly, “can-do and what’s next” attitude
Comfortable working with the public
Exceptional interpersonal, written, verbal communication and editing skills
Strong attention to detail
Demonstrated creativity and professionalism
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight timelines
Expected to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays
$22 per hour
