Full-Time SAFETY ADVISOR

The Transition House Association of Nova Scotia (THANS) is seeking an experienced Safety Outcome Advisor to lead and support the work of the Nova Scotia Highest Risk Domestic Violence Table. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of community, government, police, and health systems to help prevent and eliminate violence against women in Nova Scotia. The Safety Outcome Advisor leads the Table Staff in their work to support specific cases, identify and respond to systemic challenges, and track trends and solutions across cases. The work supports service providers in responding to domestic violence situations where there are concerns for imminent risk of serious harm or death. This position has primary administrative reporting responsibilities to THANS and day-to-day operational reporting responsibilities to the Gender-Based Violence Division, Department of Justice.
About the Nova Scotia Highest Risk Domestic Violence Table:
The Table is a shared initiative between community, police, government, and health that enables service providers across the province to elevate domestic violence situations where there are concerns for imminent risk of serious harm or death. The Table serves as a mechanism for increased attention to highest risk domestic violence situations, resulting in a wider spectrum of detection and earlier intervention to prevent domestic homicide.
Lead and support the Table Staff team in coordinating responses to highest-risk domestic violence cases.
Facilitate Table meetings, including referral presentations, updates, and collaborative safety and risk management planning.
Coordinating enhanced safety and risk management planning.
Support and advance innovative and collaborative interagency "wrap-around" responses to improve coordination and safety outcomes.
Provide subject matter expertise on high-risk domestic violence, safety planning, and risk management, informed by social determinants of health.
Identify systemic challenges, gaps, and barriers impacting safety, and support the development of responsive solutions.
Track and analyze trends across cases to inform planning, learning, and system improvement.
Work collaboratively with the Gender-Based Violence Division, Department of Justice, to develop, review, and refine Table policies, procedures, and operational approaches.
Ensure diversity, equity, inclusion, and First Voice perspectives are embedded in all Table processes and practices.
Represent the Table in relevant system-level multi-agency committees, working groups, and initiatives related to domestic violence prevention and response.
Develop and deliver information sessions, workshops, and learning opportunities related to the Table's work, as required.

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a bachelor's degree in a related field plus five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
You have a strong understanding of domestic and gender-based violence, including high-risk dynamics, safety planning, and risk management. You are familiar with domestic violence risk assessment tools such as ODARA and/or the Jacqueline Campbell Danger Assessment, and you have an understanding of the Criminal Code of Canada and the criminal justice system in Nova Scotia.

Our 14 members support women and their families experiencing violence by offering services such as: 24/7 emergency shelter and crisis lines, safety planning, counselling, outreach, referrals and advocacy, court accompaniment, and system navigation.
Our mission is to eliminate violence against women in Nova Scotia by supporting and strengthening the work of our members. THANS works in partnership with government and community stakeholders to ensure sustainable funding, effective policies, and comprehensive services that meet the needs of survivors. We also lead public education and advocacy efforts to raise awareness and drive systemic change.

This role provides the right candidate with the opportunity to work with a passionate and dedicated team working with an incredible network of people dedicated to eliminating violence against women in Nova Scotia. Ultimate flexibility as a fully remote role, applicants can be located anywhere within Nova Scotia.
Full time hours (35/week), occasional events during evenings and weekends.
