INTERPRETER (H/F)

As a historical interpreter you will bring history to life in times-gone-by and create meaningful experiences for others. You'll be dressed in period wardrobe, on-site at Fort Edmonton Park's 1905 or 1920 Street, showcasing your lived history and knowledge, enlightening others, and championing truths about an important part of our history. Interpret Edmonton and Western Canada's early, 1900s, Asian history to the visiting public, using a variety of methods such as conversation, re-enactment, role-playing, tours and hands-on activities/demonstrations of historic and Traditional skills in historical wardrobe
Navigate the scope of the public's questions and perspectives inclusively and respectfully, while also recognizing your right to the same
Participate in outreach, media engagements, public events, and other functions, as required
Completion of the first year of a recognized diploma or degree program related to performing arts, history, education, recreation and leisure studies, or museum studies, will be considered an asset (other educational backgrounds and equivalencies will also be considered)
Asset:
Knowledge of and networks within our Chinese community
Some experience with related Chinese community networks and activities
Experience working in a museum, cultural centre, or historic site
Ability to converse in a second language
Some experience with program delivery for the general public, tour groups, children and other program users
Knowledge of Edmonton and Western Canada's Chinese history and culture
Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion
Ability to work weekends, holidays, evenings, as required
Up to 3 temporary, part-time positions for up to 5 months (May to September)
Hours of Work: Up to 39 hours per week, Monday - Sunday, weekends, evenings, and holidays, as required, from May to August. Weekends in September
Salary: $21.918 - $26.183 (Hourly)
