Reporting to the Manager Neonatal Care Team the Occupational Therapist (OT) works as part of an interdisciplinary team providing Occupational Therapy services to infants and toddlers in the Perinatal Follow Up Program (PFU)a Family-Centered Care Environment. The OT provides assessment (intervention) and follow-up/evaluation (as appropriate) for families and their infants and toddlers aged 0-3 years who are part of the PFU to screen for occupational performance challenges related to neurodevelopmental concerns. The OT will collaborate with the PFU Team to support parents in optimizing their childs development and in reading and responding to infant feeding readiness cues to promote the co-occupation of feeding following transition to home. The OT provides supervision to Rehabilitation Assistants as appropriate. Therapists must follow the documentation guidelines established by IWK Health and their regulatory body. The OT works in collaboration with the Occupational Therapy Professional Practice Leader. The OT participates in client and family meetings to discuss results team and discipline meetings discipline and Health Centre related activities/committees and precepting student learners as appropriate.
Two days a week (currently needed Tuesday and Friday).
Flexibility required for travel clinics.
Graduate of a World Federation of Occupational Therapy (WFOT) Approved Occupational Therapy Program required.
Registered member of the Nova Scotia Occupational Therapy Regulator (NSOTR) required.
Registered or eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) preferred.
Minimum of two years of clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist working with pediatric populations.
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in assessment and intervention for infants with occupational therapy needs.
Experience with General movements assessment Hammersmith Infant Neurological examination and Constraint Induced Movement therapy will be an asset.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to family-centered care the Life Needs Model of Pediatric Service delivery and Solution Focused Coaching is required. Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate required.
Knowledge of program-based care an asset.
Competencies in other languages are considered an asset.
