We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time temporary Produce Buyer to join our Procurement & Purchasing team in Langley, BC.

This temporary position is expected to last 12 months.

Reporting to the Lead Produce Buyer , the Produce Buyer is responsible for procuring inventory from assigned suppliers and ensuring a consistent supply of goods at the best possible cost while meeting targeted service levels. This role plays a critical part in supporting merchandising strategies, warehouse efficiency, and strong inventory management through effective purchasing, forecasting, and supplier relationships.

The Produce Buyer operates in a fast-paced, highly collaborative buying team and is expected to work with a high degree of independence. The role follows a standard Monday to Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and includes an additional paid weekend rotation approximately every eight weeks, shared across the buying team.

Optimizing service levels, seasonality flow, inventory turns, delivery schedules, and competitive cost of goods within assigned categories.
Planning and executing procurement activities while effectively utilizing available warehouse space and balancing freshness, availability, and cost.
Maintaining accurate and timely ordering practices to ensure high-quality warehouse inventory and minimize shrink, waste, and service disruptions.
Acting as a primary point of contact with suppliers, proactively managing procurement, delivery issues, and short- or long-term supply challenges.
Collaborating with the Quality Assurance team to manage product rejections, resolve quality concerns, and communicate expectations to suppliers.
Communicating policies, procedures, and standards clearly to internal and external stakeholders while addressing issues in a practical, solutions-focused manner.

5+ years’ experience in retail purchasing, and/or merchandising, ideally with direct exposure to fresh produce.

• Produce industry experience or hands-on experience working in a produce environment (store, distribution, or buying) is highly preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Experience using automated purchasing systems or the ability to learn complex, customized systems quickly.
• Familiarity with manual multipurpose inventory and purchasing systems.
• Understanding of CFIA rules and regulations related to fresh food handling and compliance.

Able to prioritize tasks and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
