Step 1: All regular/fixed-term OCAA and ALOC lawyers on staff, current Redeployment List Members and current Articling Student Hireback Pool Members.
The Ministry of the Attorney General, Criminal Law Division is need of two (2) Counsel for the Crown Law Office - Criminal (one permanent, one temporary for 12 months with the possibility of extension).
The Crown Law Office – Criminal plays a critical role in the delivery of prosecution services. With over 100 lawyers engaged in all aspects of criminal practice – from appeals in the Court of Appeal for Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada, justice and special prosecutions, policy work, AG Consents, mutual legal assistance, to providing advice to the police and other prosecutors – we offer a unique and unparalleled work environment.
Working in the area of criminal law policy, justice and special prosecutions, AG Consents and mutual legal assistance
Providing legal opinions and advice to the police, the Director of the Crown Law Office – Criminal and other ministry officials and other government departments and agencies.
Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario

Thorough knowledge of criminal and constitutional law, including statute and case law regarding the prosecution of criminal and quasi-criminal offences at all levels
Excellent written and oral communication skills, appellate advocacy experience
Proven judgment and ability to apply appropriate legal analysis and determine appropriate remedies

A criminal or other federal offence record does not automatically disqualify you from the position. If a check is needed and you've lived outside of Canada in the past 5 years for 6 or more months in a row, or if you are not a Canadian resident, you'll need to provide an out-of-country police clearance certificate from the country you lived in. Employment screening checks are only reviewed and evaluated by the Transition and Security Office, which also maintains them and keeps them strictly confidential.
