The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry’s Research Office aims to enhance the School’s research competitiveness and research capacity, and to foster a culture of research throughout the School.

The Grants Officer ensures that research funding applications submitted by researchers for internal funding programs within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, as well as for various external funding opportunities, conform to high submission standards and to Western University and sponsor policies, procedures, and requirements within a complex research funding environment. The Grants Officer acts as a resource to researchers in navigating Western’s research policies, approval processes, and research administration systems, contributing to the effective submission of compliant and competitive research funding applications.

Undergraduate Degree in Health Sciences, Medical Sciences, Life Sciences or relevant discipline
Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline is preferred
5 years of experience in reviewing and administering grant proposals in an academic research environment

Familiarity with best practices for reviewing and writing grant proposals and with Canadian peer-review granting systems, processes and procedures
Customer service skills to understand customer needs and expectations, with a desire to deliver helpful and reliable service to the University community
Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with associates and colleagues including senior management
Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
Ability to research new avenues of funding from federal granting agencies, industry and other funding sources
Critical thinking and discernment skills to assess risk related to research grants
Familiarity with University research policies and procedures preferred
