Community Manager - Temporary Full-Time

As a campus safety civilian member, working with a team of professionals and under the general direction of the Assistant Director, Campus Safety, you will build University of Toronto Scarborough’s capacity to identify and support students that may be or are deemed to be in crisis or at risk. As a key Campus Safety representative, you will be responsible for initial case consultation and providing advice to staff, senior management and faculty regarding students at risk and in crisis. Many of these cases are highly complicated situations that involve academic difficulties, mental health concerns, substance abuse, issues of trauma, including sexual violence, family problems, and involvement with Student Codes of Conduct, and in some cases the criminal justice system.

The key responsibilities of your role will involve initial case coordination and management in situations of crisis or critical incidents; collaborating with community partners including the UTSC High Risk response team and the Sexual Violence Prevention and Support team, to strengthen the response time and effectiveness of services to students engaged in disruptive behaviour and/or who are in crisis; developing educational materials and presenting at events. While most of your time involving education and prevention work takes place during normal working hours, you may be required to be part of an on-call roster that responds, along with other University response staff, to emergencies, and crises that occur in the evenings, on weekends and during holidays. Some events and training sessions may take place outside of regular working hours.

Developing individualized long-term and short-term strategies to address the most complex situations for students in crisis or with chronic and complex problems
In collaboration with other university stakeholders, prepare high-risk case briefs used to determine outcomes for students in distress
Responding to all Campus Safety mental health calls during shift, providing mobile support

D. or Doctorate Degree in clinical social work, counselling psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, or related field, or an acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience. Extensive knowledge and training in crisis management and intervention, case management, mental health, including dealing with trauma and grief.
Minimum eight years of related experience in crisis management, mental health and illness, behavioural issues, including dealing with anger management and conflict resolution.
Demonstrated experience working with students in a university or educational environment with an emphasis on case management, program development and adult education.
Experience working in a multi-site work environment and the ability to work collaboratively within a complex system of supports and services.
Demonstrated experience with the development and delivery of educational workshops and presentations in crisis management, behavioural issues and related subject-matter from a best practice perspective.
Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of staff and senior academic administrators about issues facing students in crisis and making sound recommendations and strategies.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with professional staff across the University, in order to set up a network of aid and response for students in crisis and/or experiencing difficulties.
