The Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for developing, overseeing, and coordinating local "outreach programs" and special events planned in conjunction with other Community Services programs, partners or collaborators. This includes, but is not limited to, the mobile feeding program to provide food security to those who are hungry, hurting and in need, as well as the Pathway of Hope program, helping clients to set and achieve goals through an integrated mission case-management framework The Community Outreach Coordinator provides planning and supervision of volunteers, as well as the development and maintenance of relationships with community contacts, partners, and collaborators. Programs are provided within the community of St. Operations/Programming
Ensure the ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and that a spiritual focus is applied to all program initiatives.
Create a welcoming and safe space for individuals and families where they can explore their practical, social, emotional and spiritual needs.
All programming is to be relationally focused, support transformational change, and support the social, emotion, and spiritual needs of participants.
Ensure a spiritual dynamic, and focus, in all programming, including facilitated access for clients to pastoral services and other church-based programs.
Ensure that all duties are completed in accordance with the principles, standards, policies, and procedures of The Salvation Army.
Assist the Corps Officer with ongoing strategic planning and community needs assessment to ensure programming reflects client need as these may evolve in our changing socioeconomic climate.
Work with the Corps Officer to ensure that programs meet contractual, legal, and internal requirements (including program reviews, inspections, and audits).
Serve as a resource person to the Corps Officer in matters of community relations and media as related to the Community Services.
Ensure compliance with policies and procedures as it relates to external funders.
Network with Salvation Army, government, and community social services providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program.
Represent Community Ministries within the community, as directed.
Provide oversight into menu planning for Street ministry and the community lunch and coordinate product procurement for all programs under your care.
Build and maintain relationships with local businesses as potential vendors/donors.
Give oversight into and coordinate specific community outreach ministry programs, i.e., Recruit and register children/youth for Salvation Army provincial camping programs; Follow up with children/youth, including their families, to build relationships and establish active links with the Corps and its mission and ministries.
Thomas Community Outreach Ministry programs within the community.
Create engaging activities for the clients to participate in, develop relationships and assess community needs and review client feedback to determine potential alternate programing and develop a strategy for the implementation of such programs.
Assist with the Coordination of the annual Christmas Kettle Campaign as required.
Oversee, implement, and coordinate the Mobile Feeding program based on the local catchment area needs; team lead, food safe certification, driver, cook)
Support, assist, train, and demonstrate work methods and ensure that volunteers across all programs work together to achieve the purpose of the organization and enhance the ministries of The Salvation Army.
Responsible for preparing volunteer work schedules.
Ensure that all volunteers maintain any mandatory training or certification; identify any training needs and report to the Corps Officer.
Ensure that outreach programming is adequately staffed with volunteers who are trained and vetted as required.
When applicable ensure that all processes and expectations outlined in the Student Placement Policy are followed.
Recruit local volunteers and provide oversight, guidance, coaching, and directions to volunteers.
Ensure that volunteer documentation, training, and certifications are up to date.
Coordinate and schedule volunteers assisting with menu planning (and costing), food preparation, food distribution on the outreach vehicle, cleanup, and participate as part of the team.
Thomas Community Church ministry unit to form a local Pathway of Hope team including Officers, employees, congregation members, volunteers, and community partners, to work with participants from a holistic perspective.
Facilitate ministry unit access to the services of the THQ Pathway of Hope team including case consultation and technical assistance, training, and development, as well as evaluation and reporting.
Coordinate community linkages, referral and enrollment processes, and any reporting requirements.
Collaborate with the THQ Pathway of Hope Regional Coordinator to promote and organize training opportunities.
Attend and participate in trainings and meetings as required by the Ministry Unit, Divisional and Territorial Headquarters.
Ensure program policies and procedures are followed to maintain integrity, accountability, and program outcome measurements.
Responsible to work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
May perform workplace inspections as required.
Responsible to report any serious health and safety infractions or problems in accordance with policies to the Corps Officer and/or health and safety representative.
Ensure the Community Services Department is cleaned regularly according to acceptable health standards and that physical property is maintained, arranging for repairs as necessary.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
In conjunction with the Corps Officer, monitor the CS/Mobile Outreach operating budget.
Maintain up-to-date inventory of all food and non-food items.
Create and maintain an outreach resource database that contains a current listing of volunteers, contacts, and statistics.
Maintain file of weekly worksheets collating information about the numbers of meals served etc.
Maintain accurate records of client information on The Salvation Army's computer system (Link2Feed) while maintaining confidentiality and providing statistical reports.
Provide input in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for Community Services programs.
This is a regular full-time position based on 35 hours per week.
Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – some weekend and evening work may be required; Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions.
Travel is associated with this position {5 to 10%}; may require flexibility at times in accordance with needs of the ministry unit.
Completion of College certification or diploma of 2 academic years.
Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver's abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
Ability and willingness to provide a valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certification, Mental Health First Aid Certification, Crisis Prevention Institute Certification and Safe Food Handlers Certifications.
Minimum of three (3) years of prior related experience, including experience in a specialized social services program.
Supervisory/management skills and the ability to lead, coach and motivate.
Experience dealing with office equipment and tools.
Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
Proficient in working in a computerized environment must have strong skills using Microsoft Office Suite.
a flexible self-starter with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Attentive listening skills for the purpose of supervision, counseling, and conflict resolution.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to complete assignments and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
