Facility Maintenance Technician Full Time

Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. The City of Mission is seeking a Facilities Operations Technician to join our Facilities team. This position performs a variety of skilled maintenance and operational tasks at facilities operated by the Parks, Recreation & Culture department, including the ice arena, pool, and related public service, administrative, and multi-purpose areas. Duties vary according to seasonal demands and facility operations and include ice installation and maintenance, pool maintenance and operation, janitorial and custodial services, and building and equipment maintenance.
The successful candidate will operate, maintain, and perform repairs on a variety of ice-making, resurfacing and refrigeration equipment as well as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and filtration systems, while monitoring and recording the operation of the arena refrigeration plant fully conversant with all emergency procedures. Responsibilities also include performing building repairs, cleaning and disinfecting public areas, setting up rooms for meetings and rentals, maintaining facility security, responding to alarms and emergencies, completing grounds maintenance including snow and ice removal, and assisting facility users and community groups.
This position also participates in the training and assessment of new staff, contributes to the development and implementation of policies and procedures, maintains records and reports, and provides excellent customer service to staff, external agencies, user groups, and the public. The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of ice-making and facility maintenance operations, pool systems, refrigeration equipment, janitorial practices, building trades, and applicable safety regulations. The preferred candidate will have Grade 12 graduation or equivalent, supplemented by a recognized Building Service Worker course, Power Engineer course, and Pool Operator certification, along with a minimum of two years of experience in ice making and facility operations and maintenance. Required certifications include Refrigeration Operator Certification (or acceptable equivalent Power Engineer Certification), Building Service Worker Certificate, Pool Operator Level 1 and 2 Certificates, Basic First Aid, and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.

The hours of work for this full-time position are Saturday to Tuesday from 3:30pm to 1am (4-day work week).
The current 2025 rate of pay for this position is $35.84 per hour plus the afternoon shift premium of 6%. A proposed increase to $38.42 per hour* is currently under review and would take effect if approved by the union. We are seeking a qualified candidate for the Facilities Operations Technician position; The successful candidate may be appointed to a lower Facilities Operations Attendant classification while gaining the education, training, and experience needed to progress to the Facilities Operations Technician level.
