Legal Assistant (Legal Services)

The BC Prosecution Service is a well-established close-knit team that fosters a supportive and collaborative work environment. Working alongside Crown Counsel Paralegals Legal Assistants Senior Legal Analysts and others this team plays a vital role in advising government and police on criminal law matters developing policies and upholding the prosecution of criminal offences in British Columbia. Guided by the Crown Counsel Act and the BC Prosecution Services policies this teams work significantly impacts the justice system contributing to public safety and fair legal practices. The Legal Assistant plays a vital role in supporting Crown Counsel by preparing and managing criminal case files for court proceedings. This includes reviewing and organizing evidence ensuring compliance with disclosure requirements and coordinating with various stakeholders such as police victims and witnesses. Secondary school graduation or equivalent;
Successful completion of a recognized Legal Assistant certificate OR an equivalent combination of education training and experience;
Administrative experience including:
Office experience working in a confidential capacity;
Experience managing calendars scheduling meetings and making travel arrangements;
Experience typing drafting formatting proofreading and editing a variety of documents;
Experience developing and maintaining administrative systems procedures and standards.

Successful completion of a Legal Assistant or Paralegal certificate or equivalent.
At least 1 year of administrative experience.
At least 1 year of recent experience (within the last 3 years) working as a Legal Assistant in a legal office.
Experience working in the criminal justice sector.
One (1) permanent position and one (1) temporary position available in Chilliwack and one (1) temporary position available in Abbotsford.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent and temporary vacancies.
Flexible work options are available; A Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) and Enhanced Security Screening will be required.
