Safety Officer - Part Time

The Ballad team is comprised of business professionals, strengthening the communities in which we live and work. Our diverse team brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and creativity to each project we undertake. We provide services related to training, business planning, government relations, Indigenous engagement, and community development. We operate innovative simulated worksites that include construction, hospitality, warehouse, retail, and industrial training environments, helping thousands of Albertans develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the workforce.

Ballad is seeking an experienced Safety Officer to lead and continuously strengthen our health and safety program. We are proud to be a COR-certified organization in good standing , with a strong safety foundation already in place. Rather than building a program from scratch, we're looking for someone who can help take our program to the next level by leading continuous improvement, advancing our digital safety systems, and ensuring we're well prepared for Ballad's continued growth.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who believes safety should be engaging, practical, and collaborative while helping create a workplace where every employee goes home safely each day.

This is a part-time position (approximately 40-60 hours per month) based in either our Edmonton or Calgary office, with occasional travel to Ballad locations throughout Alberta.

Health & Safety Leadership

Maintain and continuously improve Ballad's Health & Safety Program.
Ensure compliance with Alberta Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
Monitor legislative changes and recommend updates to policies and procedures.
Support the implementation and ongoing administration of SiteDocs.
Ensure inspections, incident reports, hazard assessments, training records, and safety documentation are maintained digitally.
Training & Committee Leadership

Deliver health and safety onboarding for all new employees.
Chair Ballad's Joint Health & Safety Committee.
Support Health & Safety Representatives across all Ballad locations.
Coordinate with HR required safety training and maintenance of accurate training records.

Incident Management & Continuous Improvement

Review trends and recommend opportunities to improve safety performance.

Maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and records.
Conduct periodic workplace inspections.
Serve as Ballad's primary health and safety resource.
Promote an engaging, proactive, and solutions-focused safety culture.

Minimum three years of occupational health and safety experience.
Strong knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
Experience with digital safety management systems (SiteDocs is considered a strong asset).
Strong digital skills, including GoogleSuite and cloud-based software.
Ability to work independently while building positive relationships across a multi-site organization.
National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or equivalent designation preferred.
