Research Associate - Full Time / À Temps Plein

OVERVIEW:

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Toronto invites applications for the position of Research Associate (Limited Term) to lead the design and creation of large, high-quality experimental datasets for the synthesis of metal oxides and alloys.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The candidate must hold a PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, or Physics and have extensive experience in inorganic synthesis and material characterization. In particular, we are looking for experience in the synthesis of metal oxides and alloys, with a comprehensive understanding of phase formation and material property control. The candidate will lead the outward-facing presentation of all project work, overseeing the creation and sharing of the dataset while ensuring the underlying data is structured to support information clarity. The role requires a demonstrated ability to define rigorous standards for data quality and create benchmarks to ensure experiments are reproducible and accurate. Candidates must have experience managing complex scientific projects and overseeing high-volume experimental workflows. Finally, the position requires a strong publication record and experience preparing technical reports or proposals for major funding organizations and stakeholders.

KEY DUTIES:

Designing and planning the comprehensive synthesis strategy and search maps for metal oxides and alloys.
Establishing rigorous rules and benchmarks for data quality to ensure every experiment produces reliable and usable results.
Reviewing and validating large volumes of experimental characterization data, such as X-ray diffraction, to ensure scientific accuracy.
Coordinating with research teams and collaborators to ensure large-scale data projects remain on schedule and meet scientific objectives.
Analyzing experimental trends and reporting research findings to researchers within and outside of the program.
Developing standardized protocols to ensure the reproducibility of inorganic synthesis across multiple experimental batches.
Preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications and journals.
Contributing to the preparation of grant proposals for research funding and managing relationships with project stakeholders.
Advising and supervising students and research trainees on experimental design, inorganic chemistry, and data integrity.
Presenting findings at local, national, and international conferences.
Collaborating with a productive team with diverse expertise to advance the goals of the research program.
