Postdoctoral Research Fellow Full-time

The Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto is an outstanding professional faculty that ranks among the premier nursing programs in the world in both education and research. The Inlight Student Mental Health Research Initiative was developed in response to recommendations of the Presidential and Provostial Task Force on Student Mental Health. This high priority initiative engages researchers, students, and staff from across all three of University of Toronto’s campuses and the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health (CAMH). Kristin Cleverley (PI) is the Academic Chair of Inlight and Rossy Chair in Campus Mental Health, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the initiative.

The Research Associate will work closely with the Inlight Leadership team and Network, and the Rossy Chair in Campus Mental Health team which uses a variety of research approaches to develop and evaluate interventions that support student and youth mental health. In particular, Inlight and the Inlight network take a multi-disciplinary approach to student mental health and well-being, to inform and develop interventions that are proactive, flexible, and efficient.​ With extensive collaborations across Divisions and campuses, as well as community and hospital settings, the Inlight network and Rossy Chair in Campus Mental Health actively partners with students, faculty and staff (including clinicians, student life professionals and administrators) in all aspects of its work.

The Research Associate will have a key role in leading and shaping mental health and well-being research, including supporting the evaluation of student access to mental health services, and supporting the co-design, implementation, and completion of multi-disciplinary mental health and well-being research programs across all three UofT campuses. The incumbent will be expected to perform research with a high degree of independence and will design, direct, execute, analyze and present in written and oral forms novel investigative studies that build on and/or take advantage of the resources and expertise within the lab as well as incumbent’s academic expertise. The position is under the supervision of the Academic Chair.

Support the implementation of new data collections initiatives.
Conduct analysis as needed.
Design, plan and execute research projects related to student mental health.
Participate actively with, and implement the work of, the stepped-care data and evaluation working group.
Interact as needed with colleagues with multidisciplinary area expertise in psychiatry, psychology, epidemiology, health system research, public health, social work, pedagogy, etc.
Develop and lead student engagement activities, including leading the recruitment, training and activities for the Inlight student advisory committee.
Develop guidelines, policies and training materials to promote student engagement in research projects led and supported by Inlight, as well as for broader dissemination.
Prepare protocols, technical reports, abstracts and scientific articles
Communicate results with the research team effectively
Present research results at group meetings, national and international conferences
Participate in the research supervision of undergraduate and graduate students or other trainees.
Support the overall research and training missions of Inlight.

EDUCATION:

~ PhD in nursing, public health, psychology, education, social work, public health or another related field in social sciences or health sciences.

Minimum 3 years of post-PhD research experience with demonstrated academic and research expertise in the field of mental health, post-secondary education, epidemiology, social work, public health. Experience in these areas would have been acquired as a postdoctoral fellow, research associate, equivalent or higher position in academic research.
Demonstrated success in writing and preparation of manuscripts, presentations, reports, for peer reviewed journals.
Experience engaging youth in the development of research and knowledge mobilization activities, ideally including students.
Experience writing grants and funding applications.
Experience conducting research in mental health, student affairs, social determinants of health and/or health systems.
Demonstrated experience in mentoring and training graduate students and/or research staff.
Advanced training in quantitative and/or qualitative analysis.

Strong written and oral English communication and organizational skills.
Ability to lead a project and co-ordinate a small group of researchers.
