Program Manager (Temporary)

Reporting to the Cultural Director, the Cultural Programs Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing community-focused events, workshops, educational and cultural programming at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre with a goal of promoting, and celebrating, Dänk'e ye Dakwänje ye Dakwändur (Our Indigenous Culture, Heritage and Language).
it also supports the planning and execution of KDCC’s National Indigenous People’s Day event. The Coordinator delivers interpretive tours and programming to visitors, including educational groups and the general public, and actively engages with knowledge keepers, artists, other cultural organizations and community partners to develop and maintain a strong network of programming supporters and participants. The Coordinator works to promote the KDCC and its programming through the Centre’s social media channels, and through other communications outlets including print media and the KDFN Communications team.
Priority will be given to Indigenous applicants. In collaboration with the Cultural Director, and in consultation with the Culture Committee, the Coordinator is responsible for creating an annual programming plan that includes a diversity of events, workshops, educational and cultural programming that reflects the Centre’s Strategic Plan, and meets the needs of KDCC’s varied audiences (KDFN and Indigenous citizens, tourists, youth, Elders, community, etc.).

• Oversees all programming logistics and scheduling, including contracting artists and service providers, organizing programming spaces, procuring supplies, scheduling and coordinating with KDCC colleagues, and facilitating the delivery of workshops and events. Manages program registrations and supports fund development and reporting. This applies to both stand-alone workshops and recurring cultural programming at the KDCC, including the weekly Sew & Tell program and the Indigenous Book Club.
• Assists in the development of the Shakaat Artist-in-Residence program and the annual Winter Storytelling Festival, including proactive outreach to engage more KDFN artists, coordinating schedules and workshops, managing workshop registrations, advertising and promoting participating artists, and serving as the primary point of contact for artists.
• Participates and assists in delivery of major events and cultural and community programming, as required, including the planning and execution of National Indigenous Peoples Day.
• Designs and develops props, activities and/or teaching aids that support KDCC interpretive programming. Assists in advertisement and promotion of KDCC’s cultural and interpretive programs through preparation of brochures, articles, blogs, and other print and social media content.
• Assists the Curator with curation, set-up, and takedown of exhibitions in the KDCC Gallery Space and virtually through our Digital Knowledge project, as requested.
• Develops and maintains an internal database of artists, Elders, knowledge keepers, service suppliers and other possible programming partners.
• The Cultural Program coordinator has an important role in ensuring that our stakeholders, programming partners, visitors and community members have a positive experience while visiting, or working with, the KDCC.

Through their creative and professional conceptualization, coordination, and delivery of diverse cultural programming, this role ensures programs are well-attended, culturally meaningful, and accessible to community members and visitors, and a positive experience for artists and knowledge keepers delivering the programming.
By supporting the delivery of thoughtful, targeted interpretive programming, tours, and educational activities, this position helps to ensure that guests, tourists, and community members feel welcomed, informed, and engaged.
This position strengthens relationships with KDFN artists, as well as Yukon First Nations and community partners through outreach, communication, and collaboration, while supporting the promotion of artists and cultural initiatives through social media and other channels.
Additionally, this role contributes to the organization and documentation of programming processes (including workshops, artist coordination, and registrations) to ensure continuity, efficiency, and long-term sustainability of KDCC’s cultural programming.
Programming priorities are developed in collaboration with the Cultural Director. The Executive Director and the Cultural Committee provide operational guidance for this position through strategic planning, approved budgets, work plans, policies and procedural directives.

The successful candidate will help create warm, inclusive environments for programming, including workshops and community gatherings, ensuring both those delivering and participating feel welcomed and supported.
A high level of cultural competency and respect for Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Indigenous knowledge systems and protocols is required. Experience working in cross-cultural environments is an asset.
This role also requires confidence in public-facing settings, including speaking to small and large groups. Post-secondary education in First Nation Studies, Museum Studies, Cultural Resources Management, Anthropology, History, Tourism, Culture, Communications, Art, or relevant combined experience.
Experience planning and delivering public programming and/or special events for a diversity of audiences.
Intermediate computer skills are a requirement.
Previous employment or volunteer experience in a similar setting is an asset.

This position is primarily Monday – Friday, 9am to 5pm with required flexibility for evenings and weekends based on programming schedules.
This position works in an office environment approximately 90% of the time.
