The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting department by maintaining financial records, preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, assisting with month-end and year-end close activities, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies. This is a full-time Monday to Friday position based in Edmonton, with hybrid/remote flexibility.
General Accounting
Perform monthly account reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
Analyze financial data and investigate account variances.
Maintain general ledger accuracy and integrity.
Prepare bank reconciliations and cash account analyses.
Support external and internal audits by providing required documentation.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
Process fixed asset transactions and maintain depreciation schedules.
Support tax compliance activities, including sales tax and other regulatory filings.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and accounting efficiencies.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and IFRS.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP functions.
Required Work Experience
- 2–5+ years of accounting experience.
- Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field (MBA or CFA preferred for senior roles).
Finance qualification along with professional certification (CA, CPA, CFA, ACCA, AGMA) is advantageous.
Required Languages
English – Written and spoken – Excellent command
Spanish – added advantage
