Role

The City of Maple Ridge is seeking a skilled professional to perform intermediate-level accounting work that supports core municipal operations. You’ll maintain and reconcile accounting records, complete system and process analysis, and prepare a variety of financial statements and statistical reports. Your work will be evaluated on efficiency, effectiveness, accuracy, and compliance with established accounting standards and procedures.What you’ll be doing in this role:

Performs and reviews and reconciliations of balance sheets and operating accounts as required.

Performs various forms of financial analysis and reconciliations as required.

Collaborates with clerical staff on required areas.

Produces financial reports to other governments and agencies.

Produces departmental and other internal financial reports.

Maintains chart of accounts along with a variety of ledgers and schedules.

Proposes system and process improvements as required.

Trains Finance and other personnel as required.

Performs related duties as required. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Qualified knowledge of entry level accounting and related software and systems, modern office practices and procedures, Business English and arithmetic.

Ability to prepare financial reports and statements.

Ability to use various financial software and MS Office, with an emphasis on Excel spread sheets.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff and deal effectively with the public. REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High school graduation supplemented by completion of entry level courses, preferably second year courses, in a recognized accounting program, such as offered by the Chartered Professional Accountants, plus considerable related experience.
