Intermediate Capital Accountant

Job Responsibility: Ember is a well-funded private entity operating coal-bed methane ("CBM") focused natural gas E&P business based in Calgary, Alberta. With interests in 2 million net acres of land and natural gas production of 240 mmcf/d, we are the leading producer of coal-bed methane in Canada. Ember is seeking a full-time Intermediate Capital Accountant within the accounting department. The position is based out of Ember's Calgary office and reports to the Manager of Financial Reporting.

This role is a hands-on working position that spans all facets of the capital accounting cycle, as well as developing relationships across all aspects of the business and departments. The ideal candidate will have excellent time-management and communication skills as the position is deadline driven.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Prepare and analyze monthly capital accruals;
• Act as a key point of contact with AFE owners to ensure AFEs are raised and approved in adherence with company policy;
• System administrator for Aucerna AFE Execute;
• Preparation of monthly capital reports required by other groups within the Company;
• Preparation of monthly journal entries for inventory and material transfers;
• Review and or prepare payout statements;
• Coordinate with AFE owners to ensure AFEs are revised or supplemented as required;
• Act as key point of contact for Orphan Well Association delinquent party submissions;
• Enhance reporting and improve efficiency by leveraging systems and reporting tools, as identified;
• Opportunity for project work, ad hoc analysis, and reporting, and other tasks as assigned.

Essential Experience & Skills

• 5 years of related oil and gas experience;
• Proficient with Qbyte, Optix and Aucerna AFE Execute;
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel;
• Strong analytical skills with a high attention to detail;
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff in accounting, land, joint venture and operations;
• Strong time management skills with the ability to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines;
• Independent self-starter with the ability to think critically and problem solve;
• Experience with Microsoft Power BI preferred;
• Must be eligible to work in Canada.
