Emergency Medical Responder - Inter Facility Transport (Edmonton)

Overview

As an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) with ALTA Paramedic Health (APH), you will assess emergency scenes, transport patients, and provide emergency care while maintaining accurate documentation.

Responsibilities

• Assess emergency scenes and patients.
• Provide simple treatments and complete patient care reports.
• Operate ambulances or other transport vehicles, including non‑emergent transport units.
• Ensure ambulances and transport vehicles are properly stocked and equipped in accordance with APH standards.
• Transport ill or injured patients from scenes to facilities and between facilities as required.
• Respond to incidents in all weather conditions and remote locations, including backcountry.
• Expose safely to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct bodily fluids.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

The role is physically demanding. You must be able to lift and carry up to 105 pounds, bend, twist, kneel, and stand for extended periods. You must tolerate exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment.

Qualifications

• Non‑restricted registration in Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) CPR certification.
• Valid Class 4 Alberta Operator’s Licence (or equivalent) with a five‑year driver abstract dated within six months of commencing work and no more than six demerits.
• Completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, verified by a certificate from Lifemark (must be completed within six months of the application date).
• Physical and operational requirements of the role met at start date.
• Preference given to those with previous EHS experience in metro, suburban, rural, or inter‑facility environments, and in other healthcare or public safety roles.
• Completion of additional post‑secondary programs considered an asset.
