Qualifications

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or closely related discipline required.
• Master’s degree required (Engineering, MBA, or equivalent).
• P.Eng. registration in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba required.
• Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt certification required.

EXPERIENCE

• A minimum of 10 years’ industry experience in professional engineering, including experience and knowledge in Operational Excellence principles applied to Manitoba industries.
• An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Strong leadership skills to lead people and projects are required, including:

  • Excellent professional judgment.
  • Independence of action to determine and implement next steps.
• Strong problem solving skills and trouble shooting skills required.
• Strong communication skills (oral + written) are required, with the ability to present to a wide variety of audiences within and outside the University.

• Excellent project and time management skills required.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and intermediate‑level functionality in a Windows operating environment is required.

• Ability to make decisions and plan and control projects required.
• Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.

Key responsibilities

Operational Excellence Program Delivery

• Develop and deliver the Operational Excellence program in the Price Faculty of Engineering.
• The OpEx program is implemented via one undergraduate and one graduate course, offered in each of the fall and winter terms. Students address real industry problems provided by industry partners, to methodically apply operational excellence and engineering principles and theory. The incumbent is responsible to design and deliver this program.
• Develop and cultivate a wide network of industry partners and collaborators to support the Operational Excellence program.
• Industry partners provide projects for students to deliver through the OpEx program. The incumbent will develop the industry networks to secure the appropriate number and type of projects for each offering of the course.
• Industry participation is via a multi-year funding agreement between the UM and the partner organizations. The incumbent will cultivate existing and new financial partners to the OpEx program.
• These elements will regularly include scheduled evening and/or weekend availability.

Student Mentorship

• Advise and mentor capstone design projects in the undergraduate programs and extra-curricular design competition teams.
• Support training and supervision of the IDEAS Program Coordinators (student employees) who recruit industry projects for the Mechanical and Biosystems capstone courses.

Undergraduate Program Support

• Support the undergraduate engineering curriculum by bringing sector-specific expertise in design process, quality, project management, and/or manufacturing planning and methods into the curriculum through guest lectures and faculty consultation.

Engineering Outreach

• Represent the Price Faculty of Engineering at sector-specific events, associations, etc. as directed and on an as required basis, to support industry engagement and awareness of the Price Faculty of Engineering within the external community.
• Other duties as assigned.
